4 out of 5 stars Gena is Back!   October 16, 2007
31 out of 38 found this review helpful

After the death of her boyfriend Quadir, Gena is back with a whole new set of problems. With Quadir's money stuffed in the trunk of her car, Gena is trying to keep a low profile while getting her life together. She is still so heart broken that she doesn't think she can love anybody else until she meets and falls in love with Jerrell Jackson. Unbeknownst to Gena, Jerrell is Quadir's arch enemy who is seeking revenge. Jerrell will stop at nothing to get back at Quadir's crew, even if he has to go through Gena first. If that wasn't enough, a mysterious person is following Gena all over the city. Quadir's old crew is having problems of their own when one of the crew members turns into a snitch.

True To the Game II is a wonderful sequel to True To the Game. Teri Woods effortlessly continued the story of Gena. This story picks up right where the first novel left off so it doesn't confuse the reader. Although this is a great story, there are a few things that readers may find a little perplexing. It's hard to believe that Gena would still be in the projects with Quadir's money lying around and that she wasn't more suspicious of Jerrell. There is a shocking ending that could lead to a third installment, but Woods would have a lot of explaining to do in order to pull it off properly. True To the Game II is a fast-paced, exciting read that will surely keep you on your toes.

2 out of 5 stars Know When To Fold Them   November 1, 2007

TRUE TO THE GAME II picks up with a still mourning Gena and a trunkful of money. She doesn't stay sad for long as good Samaritan Jerrell enters the picture. What a cruel hand fate has dealt. Unbeknown to Gena, Jerrell is the very man that took her fiance, Quadir, from her.

Teri is brave. I'll give her that. TRUE TO THE GAME, whether she actually wrote it or not though it bears her name, is a book that can hold its own. Coming up with a continuing storyline that stays "true" to the essence of its predecessor and is just as good if not better is no easy feat. In this case, it was a gamble that did not pay off. I was looking for some progression with returning characters and found none. I was looking for an entertaining storyline and didn't find it. Main character Gena in this sequel really had no personality at all. She just functioned and moved. What happened to the Gena of old? Like, Gena, the novel just functioned and moved. Even when something big happened, nothing much happened. What could have, and should have, been a good story was lost. Not every novel needs action and drama and this watered down sequel might be satisfying for some readers. Other, however, will get to the end not caring and wondering WHY Teri Woods even bothered. Sometimes it really is best to leave well enough alone.

1 out of 5 stars The Gig Is Up   December 8, 2007

WOW! Let me say that again...WOW! At the outset, the anticipation of TRUE TO THE GAME II promises a gritty follow-up to its predecessor. What it delivers is a yawning bore.

Gena is adjusting to life without Quadir. With Quadir's money and a new man in the picture, things are looking up. Or are they?

TRUE TO THE GAME II is both disappointing and boring. I came into this book with high expectations based on book one. But as the book unfolds, the drama and action are few and far between. TRUE TO THE GAME II was rather predictable and does not hold enough to grab and hold readers. It suffers from so-so writing. It's filled with absurd scenes that make both the characters and the story tiresome and unbelievable. The one positive about this book is that it was a quick read. Quick because it lacked substance. Quick because there is nothing to it. It wasn't TRUE TO THE GAME!

I don't know who wrote this book since it's apparent that Teri Woods is a publisher and not a writer, but she should get her money back from whoever it is. OR this might be the time to holler from the rooftops who the real author is because this was bad. OR if she did take a stab at writing herself, she needs to STOP now and get another writer and slap her name on the cover like she's done with all the other books. But this time try giving the real author their recognition.

1 out of 5 stars Are you kidding me ??? This Was A** !!!!   November 4, 2007

This has to be one of the worst books I have ever read. Given that True to the Game is such a classic book I was expecting so much more from Teri Woods. Everyone knows that sequels are never as good as the original but she is just grasping at straws here. This book was not well thought out or executed. There was no plot and the characters had no personality. In my opinion this book was rushed out in a lame attempt to make up for the fact that she cannot produce the remaining books for the series of Dutch or Deadly Reigns. I would have to agree with the reviewer who said this was a unnecessay waste of trees.
