Product Description
Robert and Sam are back in this sequel to On Fire! Fire Chief Robert is completely unaware that Sam is having trouble with the residents of their small Canadian town. He doesn't hear any of the barbs that come Sam's way about them living together in an openly gay relationship. Much younger and not as well-loved by the whole town, Sam feels pretty much like an outsider, and things get rougher for him when Robert has an accident on the job. Sam finds out that some folks would prefer to see him gone, and some feel like he's not such a great influence on his third grade students. When Robert finds out about Sam's troubles, he sets out to put things right, working toward finding Sam the acceptance he so desperately craves, both in the community and in their own home. Can Robert make Sam understand how much he cares? Can Sam handle the new demands placed on his life by Robert's new commitment? Drew Zachary has created a wonderful pair of lovers and partners in the On Fire series, leading the reader through the everyday details of a couple who are still on fire for each other no matter what. On Fire 2: Still Burning opens a window on a life, and love, that are worth it, no matter how much Sam and Robert get burned.

5 out of 5 stars A fabulous follow-up and delightful characters who grow on you.   May 28, 2007

If you love On Fire, you will love the sequel. 7 years later, Sam and Robert are just as loving despite the 14 years age gap and their sex just as hot, playful and delightful. Sam may have matured (I thought both writers have done a fine job here developing his personality), but he is still his endearing self with his little quirks and insatiable sexual appetite. Robert may be approaching 40 but remains unwaveringly Sam's own protective and loving hunk. We have a good storyline here where the couple has to deal with a few homophobic feelings in their small town and Robert's injury. Chris and Vic have given us a wonderful sequel. Sam's and Robert's steadfast love for each other is most heart warming and the problems they face as a couple living together are so well written. The preparation for the wedding is an engaging read and the story setting being in British Columbia is of course the icing on the cake. On Fire burns just as brightly in this sequel.

This is an excellent follow-up to the M/M romance, On Fire. We join Robert and Sam seven years after they first fall for one another. Robert is almost 40, and Sam 28. They are established in their community, and while they are still blissfully in love, little things begin picking at their happiness.

There is prejudice (almost a necessity in angst-filled gay romance) but it's not extreme, a bit of jealousy and self-doubt. The wedding preparation provides a lot of humor throughout the story. No, the plot is not deep, but it keeps a reader turning the pages between the frequent steaming hot sex scenes. Our couple is still burning up the sheets, and I wouldn't mind reading another sequel.

5 out of 5 stars Still Burning (On Fire 2) by Drew Zachary   July 20, 2007
Robert and Sam are living in a small town in British Columbia. Robert is the Chief Fire, and really he is the only fireman, cause his men are all volunteers. Sam is teaching in the elementary school and he loves his work, and loves more and more Robert. Everything seems perfect, but some nasty people are not so happy that their Chief Fire and one of their teachers are leaving together in an openly gay relationship. And they are not married, they live in "sin".

But now in Canada gay marriage is legal, so maybe one of the problem can be eliminated: but Sam will accept to marry Robert only to makes happy the community? Or maybe Sam will accept to marry Robert cause he obviously loves him?

In this second enstallment the age difference between Sam and Robert is only a minor issue, more relevant is who is who in their relationship, the respective roles. Robert is clearly the dominant character, at least physically: he is huge and muscular, and he is the kind of man "more actions than words". But Sam is pushy and dictatorial he manage to lead Robert where he wants and when he wants. He is not the girl in this relationship, and he is so sure of Robert's love, that he doesn't need a physicals proof to know it.

I love this couple and I love this second enstallment cause, despite all the problems they have to deal, they do it always together and never questioned the mutual love they share. This is a sequel that is faithful to the first book and that adds happy moment to the wonderful story that was On Fire. And last but not least, the sex is, like in the first book, hot, often and funny.

5 out of 5 stars On Fire II   January 29, 2008
After seven years together, Sam and Robert are as happy as ever. They've settled into small town living, with Robert as the fire chief and Sam teaching third grade at the local elementary school. Still, all is not right in their little world. While everyone loves Robert, Sam isn't feeling quite so loved. A few people have been making subtle but disparaging comments to him about his and Robert's relationship, making Sam feel a bit unwelcome. Then Robert gets hurt at a fire, which brings out disapproval from an unexpected source. Robert wants to make things right for Sam, and gets a surprising idea of how to do so...

On Firewas a wonderful read, and Still Burning was just as enjoyable. Happy, excitable Sam and strong, calm Robert are the perfect example of opposites attracting. I loved reading about how in love and still attracted to each other Sam and Robert were. The sex scenes are both hot and sweet. There's no huge, wildly dramatic conflict in Still Burning, but while I am often a fan of melodrama and angst, I liked the ordinary, realistic conflicts in this novel. Robert's accident, the small incidents with townspeople, and the pressure Sam was under all added up to a story that held my interest without ever once having to go over the top. A wonderfully sweet ending added icing to this already delicious cake. If you've read and enjoyed On Fire, don't hesitate to pick this one up! You won't be disappointed.

*Note: While this book can stand alone, I recommend reading On Fire first.*

5 out of 5 stars The author delivers another great romance   June 15, 2008
I highly recommend both books in this series. This one picks up several years later and finds the characters facing new obstacles, such as prejudice and keeping love alive in day to day life.

I actually enjoyed this book over the first, and I really liked the first book, but the challenges the couple faces in this one are far more dramatic than a May December romance.
