A story of love..depraved or innocent?...left me absolutely breathless! February 28, 2008 36 out of 37 found this review helpful
Once in a while, after reading dozens of books; I open a book and know before finishing the first chapter, it is worth 5 stars! I know from the first chapter, it can't end well. I know from the first chapter, there is a tone or a feel of getting into an airplance with the portent of a crash. Yet we must board the plane if we want to get to our destination. This is the story of a libidinous 13 year old boy who 'pleases' himself, then teaches his cousin to 'please' him. But the boy's father sees them and finds he is very turned on. At 13, Mason, is beautiful... Mason finds that love he loves his father, truly, deeply emotionally. This is only the second novel I have read of incest where the reader feels the emerging and uncontrollable emotions of a love, that shouldn't happen. But the heart cannot be stopped. The reader forgets it is incest! Yet the reader is taken on Mason's journey as he grows. The other boys he meets, the bonds he forms. His lust, his libido open doors for him. Can one say this is a beautiful story, a gut-wrenching story, a story of an unstoppable love. The ending is shocking, disturbing and stayed with me for a while. Smart writing of a sensitive, illicit subject.erotic, sensual, sexual Thank you Mr. Holloway for writing so beautifully.
To Dads Everywhere: the Gods Bless Them! February 16, 2008 32 out of 34 found this review helpful
I was surprised by this story and the honesty with which it was told. A lot of gay boys as they grow up look for a father-figure and/or a big brother (I did). It shocked me to read that this book was written about sex under the age of eighteen which has become too conventional in gay pornography. It is significant that this book comes from Kentucky where sex between family members is more common. I wondered how this book got past the censors and looked up the eMail website which was in the business of allowing anyone to publish anything, or publish on demand. I imagine the true writer of this story will not stand up and be identified, but I say kudos to him for having the courage to tell his story. The ending was very sad and probably gives the story more of a moralistic tone than it needs. I am happy to have read this book and will keep it in my library with fondness. Kris Kleeberg [...]
Hot start -- cool finish May 18, 2008 12 out of 15 found this review helpful
OK -- so the story begins pretty hot -- a lot of steamy scenes and locations -- descriptions of the boys and actions are really good. The end feels like the author was running out of time or maybe just wanted to get on to the next project. The toughest part of short stories, or book length stories, in general is providing a really sharp ending and this one just didn't do it for me. The book overall is good though and I'd recommend it to most people who are even a little into that sort of thing. I picked it up specifically because it is tough to find stories that delve into boys who are really boys -- doing the things we do as boys. I hope to see more from Mr.Holloway.
A Father's Love May 24, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Daddy's Little Boy was a book I picked up thinking it was going to be an interesting read what I wasn't expecting were the erotic passages of the story that included Mason from the age of 12 until he becomes a teenager experimenting with various men and boys. Most of them are straight and are surprised to find themselves very attracted to this supple blond nymph. There was one part that i had to laugh myself silly especially because of the rotten Spanish, being Hispanic myself I was completely flabbergasted of what kind of translator or if they had any for this book. I really liked Mason's character and was surprised at the sexual encounters he pursued, whether from an Uncle, a cousin, his dad, a bully, farm workers etc. There are some heartwarming moments including Mason's love for his Father and then his newfound love among a former Bully, Brett, who falls in love with him. Though Mason is set on loving both men, he is ultimately left with one choice in who to love in the end. There is homophobia, rape, prison sex, incest, pedophilia and death set within the book's storyline, but I believe it is a worthy read despite the taboo topic of a Father and son love Daddy's Little Boy is an erotic and good book to keep in your m/m collection one that you'll want to come back to despite it's short comings.
Confused, yet intrigued... October 12, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I almost had to stop reading this book because all the incest was seriously turning my stomach, yet I couldn't seem to put it down because I was completely and totally captivated by Mason Sutherland and wanted to find out what happened to him. I've got to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the last chapter and the epilogue, which seemed to make me turn a blind eye to all of the incestuous "love" throughout the course of the entire book. I understand the dynamics of all of it, but I just can't condone the actions, I'm sorry. But, incest aside, I really did love Mason to death because he reminded me so much of one of my best friends when we were in high school, and I truly felt for him with all of my heart and hoped everything would work out for him. This book is a very decent read, and if you can push through the incest, it's definitely worth getting to end!
