A truly excellent little story... August 5, 2007
It's been several years since I last read this one-shot by Jason Hall, but I feel compelled to say something since there are no other reviews. "Mephisto..." is the story of a man who loses his wife to slight-of-hand magic, and spends his life trying to find her again. I don't want to say too much because I really don't want to give away anything: the surprises (though maybe it's actually predictable, and I'm just not that astute of a reader) are part of its depressing charm.
There are zero words in this comic, therefore the art must tell the whole story, and it does--brilliantly, in my opinion.
