Product Description
Unlike the Green Lanterns who preceded him on Earth and throughout the galaxy, Kyle Rayner was given no training or guidance in the use of his power ring. In this new collection, Kyle decides to seek the guidance of the greatest heroes aliveThe Flash, Batman, and Wonder Womanonly to find that he is already worthy of the name hero.

the book starts off with kyle as a mischevious titan and ends with kyle finding himself as a true hero, and future justice leaguer. guest staring the old flash (wally west), sentinal, batman and robin, wonder woman and adam strange each page is more intreging than the previous. in closing if you have ever questioned your role in life and finally found it, then you will relate and admire kyle raynor's quest for greatness.

1 out of 5 stars Guaranteed To Make You Pine For The Old Hal Jordan Stories   March 19, 2000

Why?

Why did DC allow a hackneyed writer to kill off one of their greatest Silver Age heroes and then replace him with a Gen X slacker named Kyle Rayner?

This book once again proves that it was an ill-thought idea. It is dull, unimaginative, and completely lacking in the drama and character development that made Hal Jordan (and Alan Scott before him) such a great character.

Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern? Just say no!

4 out of 5 stars The strongest GL stuff Marz released   November 27, 2000

Baptism of Fire collects most of the early Raynor GL issues. In them, you'll see a cocky, headstrong kid begin to grow into the responsibility of Green Lantern. Most of these stories owe themselves more to the classic Spider-Man stuff ('with great power comes great responsibility')than the Hal Jordan ('I have a magic ring and I play space cop between beers')era.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Read!   May 25, 2003

This is the second CrossGen title that I have read the first being Sojourn, which I unequivocally recommend. It's a total surprise how good these titles are, because I have resisted reading them. I've read DC and Marvel exclusively. I decided to purchase Negation Book 2 and was blown away by the artwork, the characterization and pacing. Each chapter if filled with tension and you quickly catch on that there is more to this band of former prisoners than meets the eye. I was impressed to say the least and I have read more than my fair share of comics. I will have to go back and purchase book 1. It's kinda exciting and yet frustrating to be hooked to a new title.

5 out of 5 stars Pay more attention folks...   September 17, 2003

Okay... Look at these reviews, then look at the synopsis of this book. Obviously a few of these folks got a bit confused when they were typing up they're reviews. Yes, Baptism of Fire is ALSO a GL collected book, but this isn't that one.
This is a book of displacement and terror, science fiction and fantasy, all rolled into one.
I've got to give this books writing team a great deal of credit 'cause they've had me hooked since I glanced over the first book.
The characters are fantastic, and despite all the sci-fi stuff going on... the Core character to this story is an everyman. Well... maybe not an everyman... but not a superhuman nutcase like most of his associates. Makes for a cool change in comics.
Give Negation, and CrossGen Comics a shot. I doubt they'll disappoint you.
