Product Description All-hour study fests . . . all-night parties . . .Going away to college means total independence and freedom. Unless of course your freshman year is taped and televised for all the world to watch. On uncensored cable. Sweet and normal Ally Cavanaugh is one of five freshpeople shacking up on In the House, a reality show filmed on her college campus. (As if school isn't panic-inducing enough!) The cameras stalk her like paparazzi, but they also capture the fun that is new friends, old crushes, and learning to live on your own. Sure, the camera adds ten pounds, but with the freshman fifteen a given anyway, who cares? Ally's got bigger issues -- like how her long-distance bf can watch her loopy late-night "episode" with a certain housemate. . . . Freshman year on film. It's outrageous. It's juicy. And like all good reality TV, it's impossible to turn off.

Great cover, but I wish the story had been better July 18, 2006 7 out of 11 found this review helpful
I bought this book because the cover caught my eye but the story, about a girl named Ally who ends up on a reality tv show when she gets to college, is boring because it's completely obvious what's going to happen.
Fun and Fast paced. June 30, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Lauren Barnholdt's REALITY CHICK, is a fun, flirty foray into Reality Shows, and the unpredictability of college life. Ally Cavanaugh is convinced she's just too normal to ever be picked for a Reality TV show, but the producers aren't interested in just her-- they want to watch her long distance relationship with her basketball player boyfriend Corey as well.
But no matter what anyone thinks, Ally is determined to stay with Corey. Forever.
So why is a certain housemate constantly catching her eye?
A fun, easy read that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.
Clever, well-paced, and thoroughly enjoyable July 19, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The day I received Reality Chick, I opened the box as I walked into my apartment and started to read, just to see what the book was like.
And I stood there in my doorway for about twenty pages before I could make myself stop reading and go to work.
I wanted to take the book to work with me, but then I would get no work done. I'm a nurse. So that would have been bad. ("What do you mean, it's time for your insulin? You'll be fine if it's a few hours late." "You're having chest pains? Don't worry about it, it's nothing. Here's the key to the med room; get yourself some Tylenol." "No, I can't bandage that bleeding wound right now - Ally's talking to Corey!!")
The next morning I started reading in my pajamas. Good thing I had the day off; I didn't dress or eat or even make coffee till I'd finished the book. I was that absorbed in the story.
At age 30, I'm not quite the target audience, but I still loved this book.
Fun summer read July 20, 2006 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you've ever sat through a Real World marathon or found yourself actually caring about what happens to the people on Big Brother, this is the book for you! Ally kicks off her college experience by being in a Real World-like TV show, and so all the usual traumas of growing up are amplified and broadcast to a national audience. The book is laugh-out-loud funny and a fast read.
REALITY CHICK delivers August 9, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Lauren Barnholdt is a fresh new voice for teens. The story moves well, the characters and situations are believable and realistic, and frankly, I couldn't put it down. Reading about Ally's adventures brought me back to my college days and wondering if I could have survived the pressure of living on camera my first semester. Definitely a must read!
