Excellent Book for the Beginning Adult Piano Student April 11, 2000 103 out of 107 found this review helpful
I am using this book for piano lessons I started taking in early January. I've wanted to learn how to play the piano my whole life and now at 40 I decided to do it. This book makes it very easy, so far anyway! The pace is steady, I look back now at the songs in the beginning that I struggled with and they are so easy! The combination of warm-ups and songs are just right. I highly recommend this book!
Great book! Exactly what I was looking for. February 10, 2004 73 out of 79 found this review helpful
Okay, I am a "middle-aged" adult, and for years wanted to learn to play an instrument and be able to read music. I first started out with the violin because I really liked the instrument, but didn't continue because it was too much at once (violin + reading music).Anyhow, I recently picked up the Alfred's Piano course, in conjunction with a keyboard purchase, mainly to teach me how to read music. The piano was a learning tool more than anything. But this book has sparked my interest in the piano! I'm actually having a lot of fun "playing" the lessons (the keyboard helps too). Overall, this is a great book that combines lessons, theory, and technique.. It's exactly what I was looking for. If you order the book, I'd recommend getting the book/CD combo.
Be careful...CD is deeply flawed. May 11, 2007 50 out of 59 found this review helpful
I regret buying this book. Only rarely do I ever post a negative review, but I feel I must warn prospective buyers about a feature of this book which I found terribly off-putting: the recordings. First of all, the majority of them are obscure tunes. In my experience, well-known tunes facilitate learning. Obscure tunes inhibit it. Second of all, the recording is not of a piano! There are all kinds of instruments on there: strings, percussion, what-have-you. Oh yes, and sometimes piano, often not very audible as it is obscured by the kitchen-sink approach used in instrument selection. The whole thing comes off as very cheesy...and basically useless for me. Money wasted. I want to learn PIANO.
Having said all of that: the text is pretty good. If you are truly new to the piano, the text will help you very much. Just be ready to be disappointed about the recordings (unless low-grade, 70's era elevator music is your "thing").
I was ready to be inspired by the sound of a nice piano playing simple-but-recognizable tunes. Not too much to ask, I think, but this book-and-CD combo didn't deliver. Avoid.
Easy to learn... March 23, 2003 24 out of 29 found this review helpful
I have not taken any piano lessens before. Now I can play two tunes," The Entertainer" and " Que Sera Sera" in one month by just following the instruction in the book. I am really happy with this book. When my friend listened to my play through the telephone, she said she wanted to buy the book.

I purchased 10 copies of the "Adult All-In-One Course: Lesson-Theory-Technic: Level 1" piano book to teach in a junior high after school program. I love it. The students are learning to read and write music. Playing even the simplest pieces with the CD accompaniment has kept them motivated, practicing, and improving, weekly.
Great book! Great service, Amazon!
