5 out of 5 stars 6th Grade Math Teacher Loves This Resource   February 14, 2000

I teach both average and honors math to typical 6th grade students. I use the Cliffs Quick Review for Basic Math and Pre-Algebra in my classroom and encourage my students to purchase a copy for themselves. I find it to be a usable source for self study and review. The language and examples are useful and simple for students and parents to understand.

I also have several other Cliffs Quick Review titles for my own children. My children use the Quick Reviews for Algebra I & II, Geometry, Chemistry, and Biology. I am so pleased with the format of these books that I will purchase any of the other titles relevant to high school and college study.

5 out of 5 stars really good   April 4, 2000

this book: 1. will help you solve 80% of the math the average person will encounter in their life, 2. [and if a parent] will allow you the math knowledge to allow you to help you to help your kids with their homework until they reach that age where they are sure that your to dumb and way to old to help them, anyway, 3. [if a student] only half listen to the 'really dull' math teacher and then learn it on your own - but it will really help if you listen and study on your own.

If you have a hard time in algebra or pre-algebra, you should buy this book. To get to perform the most odd looking problems it takes basic math and pre algebra, so i suggest this as a good book

5 out of 5 stars A Must for Those Looking for A Quick Math Refresher Course   December 1, 2004

For a college entrance requirement, I had to take a math assessment that I was a bit nervous about, seeing as how I haven't really done any math in a few months. However, when I found CLIFFS QUICKREVIEW: BASIC MATH AND PRE-ALGEBRA, my nervousness quickly faded. This book features every bit of "need to know" basic math and pre-algebra in a nutshell, instead of going on and on for pages, doing nothing more than confusing you. The format is great, and offers practice questions and answers, as well as easy ways to remember how to solve each problem. If you are looking for a quick refresher course in basic math and pre-algebra, this is the one book that you need.

3 out of 5 stars Save yourself from frustration   April 28, 2006

I consider myself to be a fairly smart young man; more wits than anything. My math skills however are not exactly up to par. I can't really even remember the last time I had to use math other than basic adding and subtraction. I bought this book in hopes of getting re-acquainted with math and preparing myself for an upcoming Statistics class. The book does not go into detail, it doesn't explain itslef, it will say to do this and that, BUT WILL NOT SAY WHY! I am constantly trying to figure out the procedures for coming to each solution on my own. A couple years ago I bought a prep book and it was euphoric compared to this one. The book was an ASVAB prep book and covered many different areas than just math. The math section really helped me out a lot though. I cannot comprehend why people are praising this book, my guess is that they are are decent in math and for the most part are familiar with everything in the book. For me, it was like starting from scratch and this was not the book for me. If your in the same boat as me, I suggest going in a book store and looking around. Take some time practicing with the problems and see if you like how the problems are explained. In other words, don't buy a book you are going to regret buying.
