Product Description After touring constantly for 12 months, Darren Hayes is about to release a stunning live concert DVD of his most ambitious and critically acclaimed concert tour to date : The Time Machine Tour.
Quietly selling out London s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, Hayes audaciously toured a show that had more in common with Pink Floyd than American Idol.
The show, designed by legendary U2 and Rolling Stones designer Willie Williams featured, amongst other things, a 24 foot animatronic steel and neon origami bird and set pieces straight from a Jules Verne novel.
The DVD marks the completion of a project that has seen Hayes graduate from pop star to label head and CEO of his own independent record company.
A year before the likes of Radiohead decided to snub major label EMI, Hayes had announced plans to go it alone via his own label Powdered Sugar releasing his double album This Delicate Thing We ve Made with little fanfare. Just great songs, intricate art piece music videos and a blistering live band.
Accountants, managers and suits and ties advised him against spending so much of his own money on such a show. But Hayes famously ignored them and took the elaborate production all over the UK and Australia. The DVD was shot in his hometown of Brisbane Australia on the final night of the tour.
''This was the tour I've always dreamed of. Bowie and Peter Gabriel made the blueprint for this type of rock theatre and although it sounds morbid, doing a show like this was one of my before I die wishes. I simply had to do something like this once in my life and I couldn t think of a better moment than this period to try'', Hayes said.
Costume design stitched by makers from the Royal Shakespeare Company and set pieces by the folks who put U2 in a Lemon and George Michael in front of the largest video screen ever built the show was a spectacle that had to be seen to be believed.

Darren, Thank You For Giving Us Your Best Concert Ever On DVD May 9, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
When I first heard Darren Haye's first solo album "Spin" I always assumed that he would have a better carrier solo than with Savage Garden. Well afew years past and I really didn't hear much from him. Then in 2007 I was flipping thru the channels and I ended up on LOGO and I saw this incredible music video (with this awesome song). The weird thing was that the singer looked and sounded so familiar to me. It turned out that it was Darren with his music video "On the Verge of Something Wonderful." I immediately ran on the computer went on amazon.com and bought his CD "This Delicate thing We've Made." When I got it I couldn't stop listening to it it was smart, clever, and I think HIS BEST CD EVER!!! Now, I know most of you who are reading this are wondering what the Hell this has to do with the concert, but, one of my friends had the pleasure of seeing him in concert and he told me that the show was great. The best song he performs is "Casey"(which is coincidentally the best song on the CD) and that he compared it to a Madonna show (only it was a little more intimate). If you like Darren it would be extremely wise for you to get this DVD. Oh, and if you want to see Darren in concert check out the Savage Garden DVD "Live and on Tour in Australia."
Gotta Know, Gotta See -- What Is He Building in There?! July 28, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I need not proclaim or laud Hayes for his musical talent or artistic evolution. It is 2008; either one knows of Darren and finds him a genius or, as has been the case with most of my peerage, he's an undiscovered gem. For those in the latter category, this is an *excellent* stone from which to step. On this superbly captured closing night of The Time Machine Tour, Darren Hayes does that which so many of his fans thought wholly impossible: he improves upon perfection.
My advice to you? Buy this DVD; see the man in all of his glory; build your own time machine (or, if you'd rather, simply put the disc on "repeat") so that you can relive the wonder.
WHAT'S MASTERFUL -- + Hayes's fantastically unique (and well-trained) voice + The tour's beautifully designed video projections + Darren's energy & enthusiasm + The simple yet stylish choreography + The crew's lighting design + The artist's larger-than-life (not to mention disco-fied) paper crane
WHAT'S MEDIOCRE -- - The disc's "extras"... or lack thereof - The number of costume changes (one)
WHAT'S MISCARRIED -- X Darren's almost anti-climatic entrance X The fact that Amazon.com doesn't post a set-list (I'll help you out with this one :D)
The Set-List (in order of performance) The Future Holds a Lion's Heart Who Would Have Thought Waking the Monster How to Build a Time Machine Neverland Insatiable On the Verge of Something Wonderful Listen All You People The Best Thing The Only One Void Darkness Step into the Light I Like the Way Words Casey So Beautiful I Want You Affirmation Me, Myself & I The Great Big Disconnect
Amazing July 3, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I just received the deluxe special edition of this DVD (which is basically the DVD sold here with special packaging and an extra booklet). The DVD of The Time Machine Tour is gorgeous. His music is beautiful, and his musicianship and delivery are also perfect. I never got to see Darren Hayes live, but the quality of the DVD almost made it seem like I was there. This is a recording of the last concert of the tour, and it's in his hometown, so you get a true feel of the real Darren Hayes.
Many live DVDs I've seen are poor quality and not worth the money. However, this DVD far surpasses others. Not only is the conceptual design of the stage amazing and beautiful, but the camera work and sound quality are good, too. I was pleasantly surprised.
Definitely worth the money. It includes many songs, mostly from Delicate (I would've like more from Tension and the Spark, but I guess this is a tour for Delicate, not a nostalgia trip), as well as some stories of where his inspiration came from.
Darren Hayes has outdone himself. I'll be buying this version of the DVD, too.
Much more than a concert... July 22, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Time Machine Tour DVD is so much more than just the filming of a concert - it's a theatrical production. It's the story of a hurt little boy who evolves into a smart, sensitive, extremely talented man worthy of anyone's respect. Of course, his voice is like no other. The writing is genius. It is by far his best work ever. I love the fact that he respects his fans so much and puts his entire self into the performance. Don't take your eyes away from the screen for a minute or you'll miss something. I have watched it about 10 times so far and I'm still seeing new things. I promise you will not be disappointed and I encourage everyone to buy this DVD. It's exceptional.
A Theatrical Masterpiece!!! July 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Darren is one of the most amazing and ambitious artists that I have ever seen or heard! His concert is a stunning visual and musical masterpiece from start to finish! Darren's music has come along way since the days of Savage Garden! The DVD covers tracks from the days of Savage Garden, to tracks from his first solo release "Spin", to the raw dark electronic emotion of "The Tension And The Spark" to his critically acclaimed "This Delicate Thing We've Made." Even though he is just under the spectrum of mainstream, he stays loyal to his fans by keeping his career real. Darren bares his soul and gives goosebumps with his angelic voice and raw emotion! This DVD will remain a fan favorite for years to come! Get your copy before it is too late! With his vocal talents and various genres of electronica, rock and pop there is something for everyone! An amazing accomplishment of your stunning career, Darren!
