Amazon.com Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) is back in season three of TNT's crime procedural The Closer. With a couple years at the Los Angeles police department already under her belt, Brenda has proven that her eccentric method works at getting confessions from even the most hardened criminals. But even she's not quite sure how to handle the season opener, where a slaughtered family's sole survivor is the stunned, stoned teenage son. Bleak, dark and wonderfully scripted, the opener sets the tone for the 14 episodes that follow it. With an exaggerated Southern drawl that belies her hard edged attitude, Brenda is at her best in the field. But when dropped into personal situations, she often flounders. For instance, though she commands a team of officers underneath her, she still doesn't know how to tell her parents she lives with her boyfriend, FBI special agent Fritz Howard (Jon Tenney, Fools Rush In). The awkward (and sometimes poignant) moments between Johnson and her folks humanize her, giving her added dimension. Sedgwick is adept at comedy, and a couple of the episodes take advantage of her skills. Jostling with an over zealous bridezilla at a crime scene, Johnson becomes the subject of a popular Youtube video. "You've become the most downloaded fully-clothed woman on the Internet," announces her boss, Will Pope (J.K. Simmons). There is some internal drama when Brenda is ordered to make budget cuts by firing someone in her group. But the best moments occur when Brenda--calm as a cucumber--does what she does best: closes cases. Aside from a couple episodes that allude to past years, this third season (which originally aired in 2007), is easy to follow even for new viewers who haven't seen previous episodes. --Jae-Ha Kim

Our Beloved Sleuth Rocks! April 18, 2008 21 out of 30 found this review helpful
There are so many "The Closer" fans out there that the number approaches that of a google. Most of us came to this program because we were first big fans of Kyra Sedgwick. The writing and the other members of the cast are super and in all ways loyal to their fans! The past two seasons have been great...we all just can't wait for the next episode. We watch the reruns religiously. TNT has a classic hit on their hands. Thank you very much! Having all the episodes on DVD is like having a box of chocolates that is forever filled. We can watch our beloved sleuth and company again and again. It is fun to follow little details through the time of this series. All of the cast are works in progress, as is Brenda Leigh Johnson. This is a great "must have" product. Purchasing this product here on Amazon.com has been a staple in the lives of The Closer fans. Amazon is dependable. The product is durable. The price is very competitve. The only shortcoming here is that the release of this product is never soon enough!!!!
great great tv. April 19, 2008 12 out of 20 found this review helpful

Can we hope for more extras? April 21, 2008 12 out of 22 found this review helpful
I have loved The Closer since its first episode, but the DVD sets have next to nothing in supplemental material and extras. While Season 3 was as good as the first two, if not better, it would sure be nice to see something above and beyond a 12-episode season for this price. For that matter, I wish they would make the seasons longer to begin with!
Excellent T.V. drama!! June 23, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one of the best made for cable-T.V. crime dramas. It has just the right mix of suspense, drama, comedy, & a little love story. It keeps you guessing from begining to end. Kyra Sedgewick is a WONDERFUL actress that is a star for the younger as well as the uuuuhhhmmmm older (like me) fans. She is easy to identify with, especially being a woman working in a man's field. (like me!)You can't go wrong becoming a fan of this series!
Another GREAT Season. July 9, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
The third season of the Closer was amazing. I've been a devoted fan from day one of when the show began airing on TNT. I cannot wait until the fourth season starts Monday July 14th at 9p.m. You bet I'll be recording it on my DVR player as well as watching it live. The episodes this season were Amazing!! I've heard great news about the fourth season and what to expect. If you are a devoted Closer Fan then, buy this set. While we don't get as many extra as one would wish, I watch it for the episodes. Continue the great work Kyra and the rest of the Closer gang! A+++
