As described by Daily Variety, "White's inspired comic mind finds a dozen sources of humor where the average comic would find only one or two." In this brand-new stand-up performance, he explores the pitfalls of marriage, offers some hysterically funny advice on picking a spouse and introduces the unforgettable "Squirrel Man," plus much more. The Tater is Still Hot May 23, 2006 20 out of 21 found this review helpful
If you love Ron White, like I do, your only disappointment with this DVD will be that his stand-up here just isn't long enough. It IS hilarious, in his usual uncompromising way, and definitely left me wanting more. One nice addition on the DVD, though, is a pretty good "Behind the Scenes" bonus feature on which he talks about how he came to be a stand-up comedian. It's not as good as the stand-up, but it's fun to see.
I was also happy to see that the material is 99% new. My wife and I both love the "Drunk in Public," "They Call Me Tater Salad," and "All The Way to the Crash Site" stories, and other stuff, but it's good to see newer material that hasn't been played to death on cable yet. "Squirrel Man" is a great addition, as is the title bit.
If you're unfamiliar with Ron White, I suggest you check out some of his earlier stuff BEFORE buying or renting this DVD. He tends to make fun of his own life, friends, and family A LOT in his act, so you'll understand more of his references if you come to it having seen the earlier stuff. Also, if profanity or sexual references offend you, pay close attention to this DVD's R rating, because Ron definitely sees that rating as being there to make good use of.
Not the Best Comedy DVD May 10, 2006 19 out of 24 found this review helpful
Ron White is a stand up comedian known for his cigar chomping, scotch drinking shtick, and is a part-time member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. He can be very funny with his southern, drunk humor. This DVD, You Can't Fix Stupid is average, at best. It runs just over 40 minutes long, which isn't much for the price of a DVD. And while it's mostly funny, it's not nearly as funny as some of his previous stand up routines. The saving grace of this DVD is that it's new material and you can always watch a DVD like this and get a few laughs.
Stupid Ain't Funny August 16, 2006 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Save your money. This disk is raunchy (that's how Ron White is), but it's also not very funny, and it's quite short (43 minutes). If you've seen "Tater Salad", you've already seen a lot of the jokes, and the new ones just aren't making it. White's a very funny guy, but he needs some good new ideas.
Big disappointment May 15, 2006 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
After seeing Ron on Comedy Central we thought he was very funny and even planned to go see him live. I ordered this DVD for my wife as a gift and was extremenly disappointed after the first 30 minutes. The gratuitous sex, immature garbage and profanity was offensive and not funny. Forget the gutter language and get back to funny. I would have returned the DVD if possible. Don't waste your money.
What a waste of talent. I agree May 22, 2006 6 out of 18 found this review helpful
I love Ron White. He can be riotously funny; but "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID" falls short of his earlier "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" standard.
First, the theme, "YOU CAN'T FIX STUPID" is not the theme of most of this show. He should have stuck with the theme, because STUPID is what you can do a lot with, where jokes are concerned.
Second, instead of STUPID, we get gross-out (and STUPID) sexual material that ...well.....look; it's like this, if you're over the age of SIX, and have heard the ordinary profane words for genitalia, and know the "F" word, you will not be surprised to hear it from Ron White. Of course, you won't laugh either....at least, I didn't, and if hearing those words makes you giggle, and you call that comedy, then I'm happy that I did not laugh.
Ron White could do much better.
