Product Description Seattle P.I. Thomas Black is sound asleep when he gets a panicked call from "Snake," a fellow gumshoe, with a case that's one for The X-Files. There's an exotic-looking woman dead in Snake's bed. He's not sure how she died, but he's certain about where she came from--outer space.
Even a murder rap and the specter of prison can't make Snake change his story. Thomas Black's job? To rescue the increasingly paranoid Snake and discover if indeed "the truth is out there." But what Black finds will prove to be more "out there" than he could ever imagine. . . .

A million dollars worth of laughs! May 18, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is by far the funniest book in the Thomas Black series. About page 2 I gave up laughing and went right to snorting. And the mystery was pretty darned good, too. If you only read one book by Earl Emerson (and if you stop at one, your next stop should be a shrink), this one is the "must read."
Another clasic Thomas Black **** February 2, 1997 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
In the typical emerson way, thomas and new wife mustfind a way to clear an old freind of a murder charge. The only thing to go on is a lame aliby "they came from outer space so I could populate their world." come take a read this book has more twists and turns than southbond 405.
Grrrrrrrreat March 8, 2002 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed Snake and the aliens women. The book is fantastic! It is a must read.
Irresistable! August 14, 2002 Stephen Greenleaf and Earl Emerson are probably the two finest practitioners of the "hardboiled P.I." school currently writing. THE MILLION-DOLLAR TATTOO admirably displays Emerson's strengths: a smooth, colorful style; a complex, outrageous, but ultimately credible plot; a motley cast of well-drawn characters; an outstanding sense of pace; a terrific ear for dialogue; and well-timed humor. Other reviews here will give you a hint about the plot, so I'll simply add that underlying all of it is the serious theme of the misuse of money and power.
Sorry, not impressed October 13, 2006 This was my first Earl Emerson read. The characters were likeable enough, but it just didn't get it for me. If you want some REALLY good P.I. books, try Dennis Lehane, he rocks!
