Another Great Book in the Series August 12, 2004 26 out of 28 found this review helpful
I think that this book is better than the last one in this series. Georgia is 16 years old now and she is crying over the Sex God leaving her behind. She still has a thing for Dave the Laugh but meets a new guy in this book Georgia's parents are focused on more in this book and her wise cracks about them are hilarious. I laughed out loud multiple times when reading it. The only thing that I don't get is the title. I might have missed something while reading! Worth buying and reading. It is a quick read, only taking me a couple nights to do so. If you haven't read any of the other books in the series, here is the list in the order they should be read: 1. Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging 2. On the Bright Side, I'm now the Girlfriend of a Sex God 3. Knocked out my my Nunga-Nungas 4. Dancing in my Nuddy-Pants 5. Away Laughing on a Fast Camel
gordy!!!!! July 18, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
this is the best!(and longest) book so far in the series. georgia misses robbie, still has the horn for dave & meets her new double cool with knobs sex god, masimo. she gets to keep one of angus's kittens, who is crosseyed. she snogs dave, even though he's just her horn adviser, and she is going to follow masimo to america. i got this book the day it came out, and had it preordered since february. i finished it in 2 hours & loved it.
still fab after 5 books May 31, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Georgia Nicolson is depressed after Robbie leaving for kiwi-a-gogo land, and her friends aren't very comforting. Things get worse when dave the laugh gets a girlfriend after leading her on. his explanation is that he's still got the general horn, so he and georgia sort of decide to be just friends(with benefits of course!) And she doesn't mind, because she has found a replacement sex god in the form of Masimo, the new lead singer of the Stiff Dylans. Georgia finds a book in her mother's room that tells how to make any man fall in love with you, and she is determined to put her new-found skills to use. This book had just as many laughs as the last ones, if not more. it is really much better than nuddy pants, and is just as good, if not better than sex god and nunga nungas. Have fun!
Disappointing June 4, 2004 5 out of 21 found this review helpful
To be fair, I do find British humor very funny. Many of the scenes contain an unmistakable irony, and who can resist words like bloke, deely-bopper, and loo? There is even a glossary in the back of each book for "you American-type chums". However, I can find no humor in Georgia's "unintentional" acerbity, such as when she thinks about her friend: "she said from inside the loo, mistaking me for someone who was remotely interested in what she did" (67). Although this is taken from Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging, this type of statement is applied throughout the series, supposedly for comic effect. I would much rather see my character, be it a boy or a girl, demonstrate compassion and understanding for others rather than run them down in a mean and sarcastic way.Georgia Nicolson is in no way a good role model; she is rude to her parents, her friends, and even her boyfriends. Although it may seem funny and oftentimes zany, Louise Rennison's series does nothing to instill in young girls a sense of strength or independence; rather, it continually illustrates Georgia as selfish and apathetic. If one is searching for books that contain strong female protagonists, I would highly recommend the following authors instead: Patricia C. Wrede, Philip Pullman, Babara Wallace, and Susan Fletcher. Clive Barker's Abarat and the book Tatterhood are great as well.
Well, I wasn't away laughing June 10, 2004 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love this series, and it never fails to find me desperately reading on to the next page. I am not quite finished, but I am one of those people who looks at the end of the book after reading the first three pages. The only thing I don't like so far, is that the male characters have really changed. The sex god is not a very active character anymore, and my favorite, Dave the laugh, has changed for the worse. The book starts off really slow, and than the pace gets faster. There is a new character, and although I do like him, he is almost exactly like the sex god. There obviously are going to be sequals, but Louise Rennison is running out of things to write about, so in this book things repeat themselves, and it often feels like deja vou. I do recommened reading this book for people who read the last four because you do have to know whats going to happen. The funny british language in the book is getting more extravagent, and I often find myself almost using it. I am eager to try out the different tips about boys that appear in every book, including this one. All in all, this book is a "good laugh".
