This one's a beauty April 10, 2008 18 out of 35 found this review helpful
I must admit, I think I would have hated Katie Lee Joel in high school. She's stunning, and she includes 40 photos of her gorgeous self in this cookbook. I couldn't figure out how an oh-so-young model-type would warrant her own beautifully produced cookbook of yummy but essentially easy recipes. I looked closer at a photo of her with who I assumed was her dad, a gray-bearded baldie. Is that... Billy Joel? Ahhh, I see. She is Mrs. Billy Joel.
The book has chapters on starters, salads, soups, entrees, side dishes, breads, breakfasts, desserts and drinks, plus a section with tips on entertaining. A foreword by Paula Deen starts things off (she also contributes her recipe for Grandmother Paul's Red Velvet Cake). Especially good recipes include the peach cobbler, cinnamon rolls and roasted tomato soup. Nothing is too fancy or difficult, and there is a photo of the recipe on every second or third page spread.
The other wife-of-celebrity cookbook I bought recently is Deceptively Delicious by Jessica Seinfeld. I love it, and use it all the time. Jessica doesn't have any glamour-girl photos in her cookbook, just some line drawing cartoons of her and her kids and husband Jerry. I get the feeling Jessica and I would have felt the same way about Katie Lee in the ninth grade. Meow.
lives up to the hype March 26, 2008 16 out of 26 found this review helpful
One of my friends got an advance copy of this book and after looking through it, I pre-ordered a copy which I am anxiously awaiting! The book is comprised of recipes, that while not overly complicated, are really delicious dishes for people who like to both cook AND eat. On top of that, the book is beautiful, filled with great photos (of both the dishes and the gorgeous author)and it's a perfect size for those of us who actually use cook books in the kitchen!

I have quite a cookbook collection and thought after hearing an interview with Kathie that this would be a fun addition. I was so disappointed. Not only are the recipes amateur at best...but the photos don't even manage to make the food look appetizing. I packed it up and returned it to Amazon without a second thought.
Amateur and Pretentious April 3, 2008 13 out of 24 found this review helpful
If you like very simple recipes - the book is ok - but it seems like a lot of recipes you can come up with on your own. I thought I was going to get a very warm and sentimental book - but instead it is Ms Joel's amateur recipes and her fashion shoot. I wouldn't waste my money on this pretentious book. Was not really comforted by "The Comfort Table".
Simple and DELICIOUS recipes April 10, 2008 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
What a great cookbook! I heard Katie's interview on the Howard Stern show and became interested in this book. I must say that I was so pleased at the array of "down home" comfort foods presented in this book. I have many cookbooks and cook VERY OFTEN. I found it refreshing that she came out with a book that was simply stated and easy to follow. It was so nice to read a cookbook that called for easy-to-find ingredients as it seems recipes are always calling for obscure spices and ingredients that are not readily available to everyone. I would highly recommend this book to "new" cooks and anyone who is looking for truly delicious "comfort food" recipes!! Yummy! Great Job Katie!!
