Product Description She’s adored by fans as one of country music’s top stars, but among family and friends, Trisha Yearwood is best known for another talent: cooking.
Throughout her life–from her humble roots in Georgia to her triumphant recording years in Nashville and a fulfilling married life with husand Garth Brooks in Oklahoma–Trisha has always enjoyed feeding those she loves. Now she dishes up a collection of more than 120 of her go-to recipes in a tribute to both home-grown cooking and family traditions.
Trisha believes a recipe always tastes better when it has a memory attached to it. Here, she teams up with her mother and sister to share their family’s best-loved recipes. This is the kind of classic comfort food you’ll want at the heart of your own family’s mealtime memories. Inside is a full menu of Southern fare with a contemporary twist. But you don’t have to be a Southerner to enjoy Yearwood family favorites such as:
Trisha’s Chicken Tortilla Soup Gwen’s Fried Chicken with Milk Gravy Stuffed Pork Chops Breakfast Sausage Casserole Blackberry Cobbler Banana Pudding
Along with the recipes for inviting soups, textural salads, home-style family entrees, colorful side dishes, and irresistible desserts, Trisha shares everything from charming personal anecdotes to practical advice, time-saving tips, and creative ingredient substitutions to accommodate all tastes.
With full-color photographs taken in and around Trisha’s homes and a foreword by Garth Brooks, this soul-warming slice of Southern life will delight country music fans and home cooks alike. Best of all, this is un-pretentious food that is easy to put together, satisfies even big country appetites, and tastes like home. Trisha’s warm evocations of pre-paring food for loved ones will transport you back to your own childhood. These are recipes you’ll enjoy with your family for years to come.

Not bad, if you accept it for what it is April 14, 2008 32 out of 52 found this review helpful
First, I want to start off by saying I am not a country music fan, so I don't have the "bias" that one of the followers of her music career might have. This book is fine, if you can accept it for what it is: a simple, down-home, unpretentious, country cookbook that utilizes the "semi-homeade" concept. It's not good for people looking for haute cuisine, exotic or spicy dishes, or fancy, elaborte dishes. It IS good for people who may be less experienced in the kitchen or for more experienced cooks who are too harried to go the whole nine yards on busy weeknights and need a break from more labor intensive books. Recipes are simple, unexotic, and sometimes semi-homeade (for example, she recommends using Bisquick mix in a recipe instead of instructing you to make your own biscuit dough for it). If this sounds like the kind of book you're looking for (and ONLY if this sounds like the kind of book you're looking for), this will do the job as a decent down-home weekday cookbook.
Simply Southern April 18, 2008 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I have been a Trisha Yearwood fan since "She's in Love with the Boy". So, obviously, it was a no-brainer purchasing this wonderful and beautiful cookbook. I am no cook by any means, in fact, I'm not real crazy about cooking... until this book. I've already made 4 recipes. If you love Southern food, the South, or anything remotely country - you'll love to try some of these delicious recipes. Family photos and food pictures throughout - all in color - will be an additional enjoyment.
If You want Mama's Recipes but don't have them! April 29, 2008 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
I am a music fan...but most of my music is NOT country. I don't own any of her CD's and have none of her music on my IPOD. BUT...If she continues to put out recipe books...I want to own EVERY ONE OF HER RECIPES. I am from South Georgia. I am old enough to be Trisha's mother. But she can cook circles around me. And some of her hints and especially her recipes my mom did not pass on to me. So please...continue this. I can't wait for the next book.
Pure Down-Home Cooking! April 21, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've been a fan of Trisha's for years (my husband even likes her music and he doesn't care for country music!), so this was a "must have" for me. I've collected lots of cookbooks over the years, but find myself returning to the same type over & over again. I'm sure this one will be one of those books. I've already made the brownies, which were excellent, and the Chicken Pie. Trisha stated that it was "pure comfort food" and the picture looked like a dish I used to order at a restaurant years ago at a restaurant back home in southern Ohio. It didn't disappoint! It was yummy and did taste a bit like the dish I remembered! Thanks for doing a book for people like me.....the ones who don't like complicated recipes, just good food!
Easy Recipes with simple ingredients May 6, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
My wife has five fancy cookbooks, yet all of them combined don't have half the useful recipes as this one. There is probably a hundred recipes, and all of them you can make from staple products, standard spices, and all can be prepared rather quickly. This book is perfect for a newly wed, a college student, or someone who is just learning to cook. It will be something that he/she can refer to for the rest of their life.
Good luck,
Kevin
