THANK YOU CAROLE! January 7, 2000 172 out of 178 found this review helpful
I read Carole's book and was impressed not only with the exercises but the information I received regarding what happens to our face as we age and the valuable tips on keeping those wrinkles from getting worse. I found the suggestion for putting cloth tape between your brows at night very helpful, and it works! However, I do agree with the readers who questioned the photos in her book. I feel they were an unfortunate mistake and would have liked to see pictures taken after 6 months or so -- without the benefit of makeup!I have been doing the exercises for five months now and am happy with the results achieved. I guess I am realistic in that I did not expect miracles. Do I look 5 or 10 years younger? NO! Did I get rid of the fat deposits under my Chin? NO! (Only liposuction can help in that area.) Does everyone gasp when they see the results? NO! The differences I have noticed are: my face seems tighter and much more toned, the color of my complexion has changed for the better, my cheekbones are more prominent and my jaw line has improved. I love the results, and that's what matters. I'm going to continue my routine and want to thank Carole for sharing her exercises with us -- she could have kept them to herself you know! I hope this review helps.
Facercise can work wonders if done properly and consistently April 19, 2000 99 out of 103 found this review helpful
I had to write to say how wonderful the Facercise program really is. I'm a 37 year old single woman who has lost 10 years off her face thanks to Carole Maggio! When I first purchased her book I didn't think it was possible to realize these results, but thankfully -- time has proven me wrong! The exercises are easy to do and very portable. When I travel, I just bring along my "Walkman" and do them in my hotel room or where ever I'm staying. The new me has created quite a stir in my personal life, as well as in my business career. I'm constantly complimented on how great I look even when I DON'T have on makeup -- now that's telling you something. Anyone who has had a bad experience with this program is someone who either a) didn't follow the program to a tee (doing the exercises 2X a day, each day and using proper form) or b) overworked their facial muscles by doing the exercises too many times each day, thereby seeing some bad results. When personal trainers train people in weight lifting, they have them rest certain body parts by alternating their routines. This way, the body has time to rest and repair and build larger stronger muscles. Facercise works the same way, only the muscles of the face are much smaller.
FACERCISE, the right way February 14, 2000 93 out of 95 found this review helpful
I've been doing the Facercise program 7 years and still am learning new tips and techniques. FACERISE DOES WORK REMARKABLE WELL IF YOU DO THE EXERCISES CONSISTANTLY AND CORRECTLY.Using the book and video together are the next best thing to private sessions with Carole Maggio. First, read through the book, then look at the video without doing the exercises. Second, begin doing the exercises, making sure you do EACH STEP OF THE EXERCISE. For example, it's important on the mouth exercises to pull the mouth corners towards the back teeth. After 7 years I still read through the book every month to be sure I don't get lazy about preforming them correctly. Believe me, the amazing results are worth it! Middle age never looked so good...
Very disappointing March 20, 2002 36 out of 38 found this review helpful
After reading good reviews, I ordered this book. I think the concept of facial exercise is valid - but the book is very disappointing. Especially annoying was that "figure 1" and "figure 2" pictures showing how to do the exercises were often identical - showing none of the intermediate facial positions/expressions. In other figures it looked like only her finger had moved. It makes it impossible to be able to tell if you are doing the exercises correctly. A series of pictures showing each position of each exercise is called for to do them correctly. Maybe this was omitted to pull you into buying the video also. I also found the before/after pictures useless testimony. They were taken in short intervals (like 6 days from start of program to "results"). The main difference between the before and after seemed to be that they smiled slightly "after" and wore darker lipstick "after". I would recommend Timeless Face by Ellae Elinwood. This book offers detailed instructions along with clear pictures of the positions. An added bonus is that the woman demonstrating the exercises is not airbrushed into a wrinkle free 18 year old - you can actually see the lines on the face as she does the positions - which I found gives me a much better idea if I am performing them correctly. If you are interested in acupressure and Chinese face reading, the author incorporates these into her approach to facial toning. Another facial exercise book to check into would be Facebuilding by Reinhold Benz. I would recommend this one if you are concerned about the exercises forming any new wrinkles in your face. This author shows how to position the figures to reduce the possibility of additional wrinkling. I would think you could use this finger technique with exercises from any other facial exercise program. This text refers to an out-of-print edition.
This exercise programme really works November 8, 2006 31 out of 31 found this review helpful
I started Facercise about 14 weeks ago and the system definitely works.
The book itself is pretty irritating and gushily written, with lots of cute little homilies. As other commentators have said, it is also underillustrated and it can take a little while to work out exactly how the exercises are actually done. But don't let that distract you from the hard core of information it contains.
I worked up to the complete set of exercises gradually, by adding a new one each day and then practising the basic set for a month before moving onto the advanced exercises. I now do them once or twice a day, fairly faithfully. To start with I found some of them painful, especially those involving the jaw (I had slight TMJ), but they do get easier as you go along.
When I started, I had recently lost 33lbs in weight and my face was looking gaunt and drawn. This tired look disappeared within about three days and each day or week has brought a new improvement, with lines disappearing and loose skin tightening up. My face has regained a youthful freshness, and the colour and skin tone are also much better. People keep commenting on how well I'm looking. The strangest things are that for the first time in my life I actually have pouty lips, and my nose is definitely shorter and more snub - my face is actually changing shape, with the latest improvements being along the jawline.
My only regret is that I didn't discover these exercises years ago, but I am still grateful to have found them now. At 43 most people took me for about 38. But three months later, I would say I look about 33-34.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
