Guts...where? May 11, 2008 I purchased this book under the pretense that it had something to do with "horror" and as the label had stated "Behind the scenes of some of the coolest horror films ever!" ... Unfortunately I could not open the packaging to look inside to see its contents but I was dismayed on getting home only to find that it had absolutely nothing to do with horror what so ever. I promptly returned it to the bookstore from where I purchased it.
If you are thinking of buying this book and are a fan of horror films...don't you will only be sorely dissapointed with it. There are some beautiful photos in it and some very bad Photoshopped ones too. Save your money and or buy Fangoria magazine instead for there is nothing remotely to do with horror in this book 'Guts'. The cover and its packaging are very misleading.
In the flesh... January 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
A film art photography book that will seriously up the social status of your coffee table. Even the packaging is so groovy (the book arrives shrink-wrapped in a styrofoam tray, resting on a blood-drainage paper towel, like a piece of raw meat from a grocery store's butcher counter) that you won't want to throw it away once you've opened it. But it's the arresting, chillingly beautiful photographs inside that make Tim Palen's GUTS a must-have -- and not just for movie poster or camera buffs. It's a grind-up of flesh, death, sex, machinery, blood, and love. You'll be haunted and turned on at the same time. Palen shows that horror has a sort of beauty, and that beauty is not immune from horror. Some personal favorites: the series of Saw Nurse Blood Drive posters and the collection of Hostel posters.
