Tennis the Menace-Dylan's going to be too busy getting trim, toned, and totally hawt for the start of eighth grade. 4 out of 5 stars Dynamic Dylan   May 11, 2008

After reading the first Massie book in the collection, I didn't have high hopes for Dylan. But after reading it, I have to say it's a complete shame Lisi never included her perspective and point of view in the other books.

Reading Dylan's book is a refreshing change and yet comforting since it's familiar. Sure the fashion descriptions and jargon (ah-mazing) from the other books remain intact, but you have a completely different perspective from a girl who worries about food and being a size six. Dylan's perspective is a strange combination of Massie's and Claire's, there's confidence, yet there are plenty of insecurities.

The plot moves quickly and fast, and for once, it seems a little bit believable. Dylan meets a famous tennis star and blackmails her, but considering her mom's occupation, it's not outrageous. While the circumstances may be far from ordinary, the way Dylan acts and thinks seem to imitate most other girls. One of the most important aspects of book lied in its main characters actions, she isn't cruel like Massie and she isn't completely naive like Claire. That provides a completely refreshing change in Clique books.

The only downside with the book is simple, just like Lisi always empathizes Dylan's "huge" size in the main novels, Dylan seems obsessed with her weight in this one, but her sense of humor and hilarious escapades more than makes up for it.

4 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it!   May 13, 2008

After reading Massie's summer book, I expected Dylan's to be a bit boring. However, I was pleasantly suprised! I loved Dylan's point of view and her sense of humor, and the storyline is good and unpredictable. I actually enjoyed it more than Massie's book! The only problem is that some parts of the story move a little too fast, but other than that it was ah-mazing!

4 out of 5 stars Didn't flow as well as the first Massie book, but still a great summer read.   May 31, 2008

I enjoyed this book a lot. Dylan goes to Hawaii with her Mom, the talk-show host, to interview a famous tennis star and cover a tennis tournament.

Almost immediately, Dylan meets a hot guy who seems more obsessed with tennis than with girls - and Dylan sets out to rearrange his priorities.

When the bratty tennis star loses her temper at Dylan, after pledging on her Mom's show that she has changed her ways through anger-management sessions (!), Dylan blackmails her into helping Dylan get the guy.

The characters were a bit overdone and hard to believe, but it was still an enjoyable read - just harder to really fall into.

It was nice to get some insights into Dylan's character - unfortunately, there wasn't a whole lot that was truly compelling about her. She is a bit insecure and worries about her weight (at size six), and didn't really seem into much of anything beyond boys and fashion- but even those interests were more superficial than Massie's, for example.

Bottom line: good beach read, but don't bother if you aren't already a fan. (I liked Massie's a lot better!)

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as I expected   May 11, 2008

As a huge fan of the Clique series, I was excited to read the second book of the summer collection. I must say, however, that I was disappointed. The book seems to be written quickly and lacked the solidness of Lisi Harrison's other books. There seemed to be some holes in the writing. The book was not a 'smooth read' as the other Clique books are.
I did like having the story written from Dylan's point of view. I truly enjoyed her perpesctive on many real-life issues faced by girls everywhere.
I end this review with a final questions- why isn't the girl on the cover a redheaded curly girl wearing bright colors? The girl on the cover is so not Dylan!!

5 out of 5 stars Love, Love, Love!!!   May 26, 2008
This book is Ah-mazing! It is so much better than what these reviews say! Dylan comes out strong and not the "girly-girl" she is when she is around Massie. You should totally buy it=)
