Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Holly Cathers's world shatters when her parents are killed in a terrible accident. Wrenched from her home in San Francisco, she is sent to Seattle to live with her relatives, Aunt Marie-Claire and her twin cousins, Amanda and Nicole.

In her new home, Holly's sorrow and grief soon give way to bewilderment at the strange incidents going on around her. Such as how any wish she whispers to her cat seems to come true. Or the way a friend is injured after a freak attack from a vicious falcon. And there's the undeniable, magnetic attraction to a boy Holly barely knows.

Holly, Amanda, and Nicole are about to be launced into a dark legacy of witches, secrets, and alliances, where ancient magics yield dangerous results. The girls will assume their roles in an intergenerational feud beyond their wildest imaginations...and in doing so, will attempt to fulfill their shared destiny.

3 out of 5 stars More Adult and less young adult.   October 16, 2008

I say more adult because there are many characters and the book does a lot of jumping around. There is nothing sexual about this book and no real ending to the story. It was interesting to read if you could keep up. But it was a real let down in the end no big finish or anything and a lot of unfinished business. I hope the sequal is better.

5 out of 5 stars In Depth Read   November 7, 2008

It's a great book. I does start of a little slow. I had to make myself keep reading for about the first 30 pages because of all the detail and the jumping around of who's view the book is being written in at the moment. There's a lot of information you don't get in the beginning but begins to reveal itself the more you read. Which I discovered is half the fun of it, finding out what things mean with the charachters.
It's really in depth and there's a lot of detail. But the way everything ties into the story, the plot, how the authors can take everything back centuries and the charater developement is great. I agree that the book seems to be more adult than young adult, not for anything sexual as stated, but because of so much detail and you do need to keep up and have a good reading memory of what has gone on. But just because I think it's in the wrong section doesn't mean I'm going to give it only 3 stars. It's a good read and if you can keep up it keeps you turning the pages fluently. After I got past the beginning I just kept turning pages and found myself on page, like, 150 to 250 without even thinking about it.
Good read for more in depth young adult readers and adults alike. I recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars wicked: witch & curse   December 2, 2008
The Wicked Series comprises 4 books, & this volume contains the first 2 books, "Witch" & "Curse." These 2 books are definitely not of the same quality. "Witch" is somewhat of a mess, with enough switching POVs to confuse anyone. This setup also causes the author's to show their hands too early; because we can see what every character is doing, there are no real surprises. We know all of the supposed secrets right away.

"Cursed" is the much stronger of the 2 books. The POVs continue to switch, but there are some genuine surprises, one being the somewhat unlikely alliance of one of the Cahors witches, Nicole. We are also introduced to several new characters that mix up the plot nicely. I do intend to read the final 2 books, "Legacy" & "Spellbound."
