Karen Kingbury's "Between Sundays" January 4, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What I love best about Karen's newest book is the theme. Life has a way of getting in front of the focus of our faith. Our faith in God shouldn't be centered around events - Sunday church services, Christmas, Easter - but on the everyday things we do that make a difference to others. Truly life is to be lived 'between Sundays'. For many churches, the people who attend there only show up on Sundays to make them feel like they're acting out their faith. However, they are empty inside when it comes to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. If we could just stop and think of what we're good at doing that would make a difference in someone else's life...and then do it! Once again, her book captured my attention and kept it the entire time. I have the habit of picking up Karen's book and then I keep reading until I'm done. I'm blessed and enriched and challenged and uplifted and encouraged every time I read a 'Life Changing Fiction' book written by Karen. I love passing them on, as well, to others.
Great Book November 26, 2007 I have to admit that I wasn't expecting alot out of this book. I was totally surprised. I really enjoyed reading this book and have recommended it to others. Karen Kingsbury has a way of writing that makes you want to be a better person. Thank you for such a wonderful book.
Great Introduction to Christian Fiction November 26, 2007 This was my first Christian fiction book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been a Christian for 8 years and have never had any interest in Christian fiction. Then again, in the last few years, I have had no interest in fiction whatsoever. So this was my first fiction book in a long time. I had my doubts but I quickly found myself engrossed with the characters and turning pages quickly to see what would happen next. I think the romantic element in this book was a little too much but only a hair too much. I loved the story line even though I'm not much of a football fan. I read the prologue/intro which I usually skip but it was important to read and I'm glad I did. It was in those first few pages that I was hooked. Definitely get this book even if you don't like Christian fiction. If you're a guy, you'll find yourself loving this book too.
Wonderful November 19, 2007 I just finished reading Between Sundays. This book has really impacted me and my life. I am now reminded that everyday there are thousands of kids coming out of the foster care system with no where to go. I applaud Kingsbury and Smith for bringing this issue so close to home and in such a real way. This book is wonderful, anyone who loves a child should read it.
Simply Amazing December 2, 2007 Once again within the first few pages Karen Kingsbury had me hooked. It is a tear jerker from the get go. She captured my attention with this sweet little boy called Cory and the hardship he faces at only 6 years old. She shares with us how the foster program works and that there are children who are neglected as they turn 18. But she also shows us how people like Cory's foster mom, Megan do anything they can to provide a loving and stable home for a child. She tells us that yes, there are still good people out there who are willing to and want to make a difference in a child's life. And even though he is a foster child, he is still well mannered and is a good boy. I love how she talks about real life and that yes, we as humans really do mess up. But thanks to God's mercy and grace, he forgives us. I would recommend this to all readers. It shows us that through it all, God is so faithful and yes, God is GOOD!
