The Book that Saved Me May 14, 2005 92 out of 95 found this review helpful
This book completely transformed my view of food. It truly is all in our perspective of how we look at a sitation and Geneen Roth helps us to love ourselves, truly. She describes her own pain and suffering with compulsive eating and allows us to remember that there are many other women out there feeling the same way. I read this book for the first time when I was sixteen and was able to stop bingeing for a year! Now, I am rereading it at 19, after going through a hard time, and once again practicing her teachings. I love her. She is such a wonderful inspiration and has completely changed my life.
My message board members love this book October 6, 2005 27 out of 35 found this review helpful
I own a very active Yahoo! message board for non-dieters. Many of my members have read and loved this book and they tell others about it on the board. We include it in our links to recommended materials.
This book has saved my life! July 9, 2006 26 out of 27 found this review helpful
I have had problems with emotional eating/binge eating on and off for over 15 years. Geneen Roth shares her struggle with emotional eating and as you are reading you feel as if you are not alone. That many other people share your struggle and there is help. This book is based on her work shops with exercises but mainly deep reading that really gets you to re-set how you think about yourself. I have and I do recommend this book.
A good book but is just Compulsive Eating retitled January 29, 2007 21 out of 30 found this review helpful
It's a good book but I didn't realise until it arrived from Amazon that I already had the book. The original was released as Breaking Free from Compulsive Eating. This is Breaking Free from Emotional Eating.
I have to confess to feeling slightly cheated having bought the same book twice!!! I've given it 4 stars because it's a good book but I was pretty frustrated to receive a book I'd already read
Breaking Free From Emotional Eating May 8, 2007 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
As a serial dieter, I was skeptical of anything claiming to help me "break free" from this millstone around my neck. But as I read the book I began to see what a novel approach Ms. Roth has outlined. It is clear, well-defined and, I think, do-able in the long run. It is not a fast fix and I cannot yet testify to its effectiveness, but I am hopeful and look forward to the soul searching and self-discovery that lies ahead. If nothing else, it has calmed me down, taken away a large part of my dispair, and given me a glimpse of possible freedom from my addiction.
