To keep her spot at the top, Massie decides to throw the school's first boy/girl Halloween party. But her parents are making her invite the entire grade AND share the party with Claire. She's not sure which is scarier...Dylan Marvil - Lost the weight. Kept the attitude. Plans to use her new look to snag a cute guy. Kristen Gregory - Clothes are for sharing. Guys aren't. Likes the same guy Dylan does. Will do whatever it takes to get him. 5 out of 5 stars Scandalous Sequel to 'The Clique'   September 21, 2004

The Clique (Massie Block, Dylan Marvil, Kristen Gregory, Alicia Rivera, and, of course, the wannabe, Claire Lyons), are back for another shot at ruling the school. Seventh grade Massie is still the most popular girl at OCD (Octavian Day School), and to prove that, she plans on throwing OCD's first ever boy/girl Halloween party. However, Massie is unsure which is worse, being forced to throw the party with Claire (the un-popular girl who wants to be in), or having to invite the entire grade, even the geeks! Dylan, on the other hand, has finally lost the extra weight she was carrying around, and is now determined to use her new body to catch a new, super-cute guy. Kristen knows one thing, while clothes are for sharing, guys aren't, which is why she plans on catching the guy who Dylan likes, as she likes him as well, and keep him to herself. And she'll do anything it takes. Alicia sees that The Clique is at each others throats, and she plans on taking it over, and being the new hipster her rules OCD. Then there's Claire. Poor, sweet Claire. She doesn't know what she's in for. The Clique is back and more spiteful than ever.

While I have not read the first CLIQUE novel, I was able to understand what was going on with the characters, and keep up with the commentary in BEST FRIENDS FOR NEVER, thanks to Lisi Harrison's fantastic way of re-capping what happened in the previous novel. However, after reading BEST FRIENDS FOR NEVER, I find myself craving more of THE CLIQUE. Each girl is unique in her own way, while at the same time making sure not to be too unique, as being unique can easily make you an outcast. I found THE CLIQUE to be a juicy new series that will appeal to girls who are too young for Cecily von Ziegesar's popular teen series GOSSIP GIRL, but interested in reading about the goings on in a popular girls clique. Fans of the movie MEAN GIRLS, starring Lindsay Lohan, will find this new pre-teen/teen fiction to be scandalous, but not racy, and find themselves unable to put this book down until the very last word is read. A must-have!

5 out of 5 stars The Clique is Back, The Plot is thickening   July 10, 2006

The Pretty Committee is back, in this great sequel to the already awesome novel, "The Clique".

In this book, the plot takes a wild turn when Massie decieds to beat two girls to having a boy/girl Halloween party. She gets caught up in the spirit, when she and the rest of the Pretty Committee where their hot, new Halloween costumes to school, and get detention.

They then have the Halloween party, but one of the girls is not permitted to attend, because of the detention. The party is also not all it's cracked up to be, because Massie finds out her crush likes someone else.

Then, the worst happens. Something that might actually tear Massie and Alicia apart...

This sequel shows that a great story can keep going on. I highly reccommend this romantic, true, and funny book.

1 out of 5 stars absolutely pathetic   October 30, 2004

With the release of Gossip Girl came the releases of several, colorless 'spinoff' type series (i.e The A-List, The Au Pairs, so on). And this is absolutely the WORST. The characters are disgusting to read, and Claire is so unbelievably annoying it makes me want to rip my hair out in frustration. Not to mention the plot is so one-sided it can barely stand on its own two feet. Fans of "Mean Girls" supposedly flock to this book, when they really shouldn't -- this is stupid, dumb, and absolutely pointless. Save your money on something actually worth it.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE IT   October 12, 2005

This book was SOOO GOOD!!!!! Half the time I read it I would stay up till 12:30 reading it. It was that good.

So Massie gets a hint from Alicia that someone thinks she's out, a has been, tripping, just plain old OUT! So Massie throws a boy/girl Halloween party. With CLAIRE. Only because that was the only way she could get the party, so she had to.

Now to make her life even worse, OCD is going UNIFORM!
Pia makes a contest to see what the uniform would look like.

I'm not gonna tell you the rest of the story but it is SOOOO good you should read it....

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!

5 out of 5 stars Fat Cat on a Bat Mat   February 13, 2007

" I heard Becca Wilder tell Liz Goldman that she thinks you are on your way out". That sentence was a horrifying statement to Massie Block leader of the infamous Clique. Massie is head of the social scene at Octavian Country Day School in upstate New York. But like every human being she has problems too. A tagalong nobody named Claire is staying in her guesthouse, she has to design a uniform for OCD in one week, and win the fashion show competition.

Also on Massie's to do list is, throw the greatest Halloween party ever (even if it is with Claire), and figure out why Alicia, her second in command, is ditching her for a dumb blonde named Olivia. Let's not forget boys. Massie has a crush on Cam Fisher the Briarwood soccer star, who likes the "nobody" Claire, although Massie is not aware of that certain fact. Massie is overwhelmed. Whoever thought
being popular would be so hard?

The genre of this book is fiction, and it is part of a series called The Clique. I really loved this book and the other Clique books. I just couldn't stop reading. I almost couldn't put them down. I loved how the plot was twisted when everyone thought Massie was going to win the fashion design contest and then it was announced that Alicia and Olivia won, Or did they?

The type of reader who should read this is a 10 to 14 year old girl. Boys, I think would not like this book. The writer of this book created MTV shows before she started writing these books. I think she was definitely a better author than TV show creator.

This book and series of book is one of the best series I have ever read. It is exiting, intriguing, kind of like riding a literary roller coaster. I recommend this book to anyone who likes fashion, and fun. And let's not forget revenge!
