4 out of 5 stars Hot Dog Lovers guide Book   April 10, 2007
2 out of 2 found this review helpful

This book is an excellent addition to any Hot Dog lovers collection. Found a lot of recipes for "secret" sauces and special menu items from different locations. It also is a great guide book to hot dog spots all over the country, almost all of which can be found on [...] The Largest Hot Dog Directory on the web!!!

5 out of 5 stars Puttin' On The Dog!   April 24, 2007

First off, you're going to need two copies of this book: one for the kitchen and one for your glove box. One for the kitchen and one for the road!

Becky Mercuri, as in all her other fine books, has once again gone above and beyond in her quest to document the historical authenticity, modern day excellence, and (with apologies to A.B.) just plane ol' good eats!

The Great American Hot Dog Book does for hot dogs what hot sauce did for the lowly chicken wing: it takes the common and turns it into the exceptional! No matter your station in life, you'll never be able to look down your nose at the hot dog ever again! The recipes that Ms Becky has researched, tested, and then included in this book will see to it that you won't!

She has done a great job of providing us with the knowledge and recipes that examine and celebrate the various regional differences and preferences for hot dogs across this great land of ours. And there are some undeniable difference, for sure. Just ask any hot dog vendor in Chicago for ketchup on your dog and see what happens...

This is a great book on a great American tradition.

Thank you Becky Mercuri for another outstanding resource on traditional American food.

5 out of 5 stars Ultimate Hotdog Lover's Resourse!   April 16, 2007

The ultimate guide to, and history of, the all-American hotdog. Mercuri's talent as an author and historian shine in her latest endeavor. The best of America's hotdog eateries are documented, along with plenty of recipes and historical data that pique the interests of anyone who enjoys a good "dog" now and then. This one should be in every pantry in America! After all, who doesn't like a good hotdog?

5 out of 5 stars Great American Hot Dog Book=Great Book!   April 29, 2007

In The Great American Hot Dog Book one will find not only recipes for hot dogs in every conceivable fashion, but also recipes for side dishes and a wealth of information on the hot dog. Ms. Mercuri has outdone herself in providing a real reference on the history of the hot dog and how it became an icon of the American foodways. Recipes from across the country, showcasing each regional specialty are included, making this book a great travel guide as well as a cookbook. Her attention to detail and recipe testing are well-evident and make for a terrific book.

5 out of 5 stars Totally awesome   August 1, 2007

I have never written a review for anything before, but this one deserves it. I absolutely love this book and so does my husband. I never knew so much about hot dogs, as well as the many different ways that people eat them across the country. I have it sitting out so that everyone can see it, and normally that is the first thing they pick up when they come to my home. I definitely recommend this book to anyone, even those who don't like hot dogs will like this book. It is totally awesome.
