Product Description
Feared by pitchers and loved by baseball fans of all stripes, David “Big Papi” Ortiz wields a big bat, a huge smile, and an even bigger heart. In this blockbuster biography, Ortiz tells his tale: Growing up poor in the Dominican Republic, struggling through the minor leagues in an unfamiliar country, and ultimately finding success as a late-inning hero for the Boston Red Sox . . . and helping his team make the greatest comeback in sports history by winning the 2004 World Series. In 2006 he broke the team record with 54 home runs and started the All-Star game for the third straight year in 2007.
Along the way he shares his hard-won wisdom, sidesplitting laughs from the clubhouse, thoughts about his famous teammates and opponents, and some remarkably candid opinions. Big Papi is an unforgettable story about a sports hero that will have readers cheering with every page.

Big Papi is why Red Sox Rock and Yankees Blow.... April 22, 2007 16 out of 24 found this review helpful
This was an awesome book. Though I'm puzzled why Ortiz never won an MVP. He's so incredible, and a gifted author.
This book makes it clear why the Red Sox are marching on to yet another World Series Championship, and why the overspent Yankees will likely never win another championship again.
Perhaps the most eloquent statement ever made about the Red Sox and Yankees was made by a sportscaster who said "There's no doubt that the Yankees are a group of highly talented players. But the Red Sox are a team of talented players, and everyone knows who the heart of that team is."
Great Book About A Great Person April 23, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
You cant help but love Big Papi. This book is just further proof of Papi's triumphs on and off the field. He overcame a lot to get where he is today, and this book tells you the whole story. He is a unique individual that has given back to the community ten fold. Hes a great baseball player, but he's even a better human being.
EXCELLENT!! April 25, 2007 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is not one of those typical celebrity books that goes on for pages about how great the author is. This is an amazing story about a man who overcame everything to get to where he is. It's got heartbreak, humor, great baseball stories and insight into who Big Papi really is. Truly an excellent, excellent book.
Big Papi Rocks! April 23, 2007 5 out of 12 found this review helpful
It's really a joy to watch this gentle giant add so much to my beloved Red Sox. His intensity at the plate is unmatched. He really is a role model to many. This book is cool. Long may he reign!
I'm a Big Papi fan, but... May 8, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Overall, this is a pleasant read, but don't expect to come away with any major insights about the Red Sox, making it in professional baseball, or even about David Ortiz. It does indeed appear that a lot of the book is Papi's actual words, but he steers well clear of any prickly areas (for example, he never really describes his relationship with Manny Ramirez, or offers any significant insight into what makes Manny go). Papi is also pretty repetitive at times - there's really not enough material for a book of 250 pages.
