A nice addition to your library May 13, 2008 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
It covers all the important bases, but this book doesn't have the authoritative tone and depth of the classic childcare books such as Caring for Your Baby and Young Child: Birth to Age 5 by the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Spock's Baby and Child Care or Your Baby and Child: From Birth to Age Five by Penelope Leach. As an additional volume though, it's just fine.
The book has a whiff of cheap about it. The unsophisticated design incorporates no color photographs (the Leach book above has over 350) and less than a dozen black and white images.
The advice, however, is sound. Throughout the book are boxed "Need to Know" items on topics such as the steps to administering medicine to a baby and when to call the doctor.
Here's the chapter list:
Part 1: Before Baby's Born * Becoming confident parents * Making confident first choices * Essential equipment for provisioning your baby
Part 2: Baby's Here! * Zero to three months * Three to six months * Six to nine months * Nine to twelve months
Part 3: Exceptional Circumstances * Multiple births * Preemies and other special needs * The adopted baby
Part 4: Tidying Up: Resource Guides * Growth charts * Immunization schedule * Common illnesses and ailments in babies * Meningitis * Emergency first aid for children under one * First aid kit * Toys for the first year * Useful resources * Baby log
2nd time mom May 9, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am a new second time mom and feel like this is my first child. This book shares so many helpful ideas for being a mom. I was reassured and given confidence by reading that a lot of the things I already do are suggested. This is a great book and I highly recommend it to everyone.
A God Send...wonderful book!!! May 18, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I just got this book a couple of weeks ago. Already I have implemented a feeding routine for my 3 month old. He is taking to it wonderfully. I have also read great advice on different issues, such as crying, nap times, etc. What is wonderful is that Jo breaks the age groups up so that you can tailor your parenting to that age group. I was so glad to recieve the book while he is still young, so that I may implement the different routines (feeding, sleep, play time) as he grows.
Excellent Resource June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is an easy read, and a great resource for a mom (or dad) of a baby under 1 year. I would recommend this product to any first time mom or as a gift for a baby shower.
Same old thing June 7, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book had pretty much all the same info as all the books I already own. I was disapointed.
