IF ONLY YOU KNEW by Denene Millner and Mitzi Miller is the continuation of the teen saga of twins, Sydney and Lauren Duke. Sydney and Lauren are spoiled and rich and attend a prestigious high school made up of students from some of Atlanta's wealthiest African-American families. They wear the best designer clothes, drive high-end model cars, and received spa treatments on a whim, but they cannot help themselves when they become involved in a murder mystery. A murder which implicates Lauren's boyfriend Jermaine, from the West End of Atlanta, and their mother and stepfather.
Their stepfather Altimus, is the proprietor of several auto dealerships and their mother, Keisha is a socialite. When Jermaine's brother is murdered on his front lawn, the twins begin to snoop into the past, and the secrets they uncover are shocking. Fueled with information from their biological father, who is in prison, and an aunt and uncle, the twins discover Altimus and Keisha are not whom they appear to be. In addition, Sydney is dealing with the crushing breakup with one of the most popular boys in school, the son of a City Council woman, who her mother adores because of the social connection.
A teen reading this is hooked from the opening until end. Because of the lavish lifestyle described and the bad boys they become involved with, one can only imagine the depths of both worlds. Some scenes are over the top which added to the dramatic affect. However, a message is sent, money and status cannot buy happiness and our true colors do shine through.
