There really is such a thing as too much sex August 14, 2006
Of the 282 pages that are Tattoo of a Naked Lady (the 283rd page is an About the Author page), very few do NOT contain some sort of sex. The main character, a hustler by the name of Randy Everhard (I bet the pun is indeed intended), spends his days scamming gullible visitors to the carnival where he works.
That is, when he's not busy having sex with most, if not all, women who come his way. Wherever he turns he's always able to find someone from the opposite sex (every one of them, with one single exception, with enormous [..]; apparently the author has some sort of [...]) who is more than willing to do the funky stuff with him, and very early in the book it becomes apparent that he truly deserves the name given to him. When he meets Bunny LaFever, a busty bombshell with an equally insatiable appetite for sex, but unfortunately married to the owner of the carnival, Everhard's previously quite monotone existence is turned upside-down. Before he knows it he finds himself in a big mess where some of the ingredients are criminal bikers, nymphomaniacs, methamphetamine, and sleazy motels.
And sex. Sex, sex, and more sex. Which is both a good and a bad thing. If you're looking for nasty sex, worthy of any xxx-rated movie, then Tattoo of a Naked Lady will most definitely satisfy your needs, since all the scenarios manage to be both quite varying and innovative. However, the insane amount of sex is also somewhat of an annoyance.
Kwiatek is a very talented author indeed, especially when it comes to creating clever and often humorous metaphors. It's truly a pleasure to experience his way of writing, but fact remains that the continuously recurring sex scenes totally dominates the entire book. No matter how entertaining these scenes are in themselves; eventually one finds himself being nothing but disappointed whenever a new woman enters the story and meets Mr. Everhard. Especially since it all becomes so predictable. You just know what are about to happen, because the same thing happens over and over again from start to finish.
This, in turn, overshadows the great talent possessed by Kwiatek, because regardless of how satisfying all the sex might be; it's still the sections that can be found in between that make up the best reading. But they're constantly being overrun by Everhard's libido, and unfortunately that is indeed damaging to the book as a whole.

Palahniuk sold his soul to Bacardi Rum ads and Hollywood yuppies in prettyboy suits but Everhard sold his soul to the devil. Randy Everhard won't ever sell out (or write the same...book over and over again) cuz I heard he got shot dead in a motel room a while back. So if they ever make a movie out of Tattoo of a Naked Lady (not that they'd ever have the guts to do it, but on the off-chance they do do it, like I heard they might) it'll be over his dead body, literally!

Sex.Drugs. Carnies. Sex. Sound like fun? Actually, as long as you're not too much of a prude, you'll probably find this book's incessant sex and violence kind of funny, and definately entertaining. However, unlike other books of this ilk (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Naked Lunch) don't expect any sort of deeper meaning or a unique look at life in today's world. Don't expect any meaning at all really. Just be prepared to chuckle.

This book is so poor. I can read almost anything but could not get throught this book. It is so terrible I can't explain it. It would have been an okay short story in a magazine but that's about it.

I'm a busy guy so I don't read many books but I do go to the ... just about every day, so I can recommend Tattoo of a Naked Lady as the best "... read" you'll ever find. It's got sex, crime and violence in spades but best of all you can read a couple pages one day and then pick it up the next and still be up to speed with what's going on. If you're like me maybe you'll find yourself ... to the head a little more than usual just to find out what happens next. And if you do something else while you're there, well, nobody has to know. Buy your copy today, before they get wise and make it illegal. It's that good.
