Product Description
One fateful night, Toni Langston seduces her best friend, the guy she's been in love with forever. Two problems-he doesn't remember a thing that happened and now she's pregnant. Toni Langston has been in love with Simon, her best friend, for years. The night Simon breaks up with his long time girlfriend, he and Toni make love. Toni is devastated and humiliated when, in the heat of the moment, he calls her by his girlfriend's name. The next morning, Simon remembers nothing of the previous night and Toni is only too relieved not to remind him. Two months later, she discovers she's pregnant. She wants Simon to love her, apart from any obligation he might feel because of the baby. So she embarks on a quest to seduce her best friend, to make him see her as more than a little sister, to make him love her as much as she loves him. It works. Maybe too well. Now when things are perfect, she faces telling him of the secret she's kept.

Toni Langston has gotten herself into a bit of a pickle. OK, it's actually a pretty big mess, if you want to know the truth. Not only is she pregnant, but the father doesn't even remember having slept with her, having been uncharacteristically drunk the night it happened. To make it even worse, the father is Simon, her long-time friend and one of her roommates, who she has harbored a secret crush on for more years than she can count. Toni sees this as her last chance - if she wants Simon, she must seduce him, preferably before their baby is born.

Simon has never noticed Toni, not romantically. They are best friends and he'd do anything for her, but he has never seemed to feel the same way about Toni as she does for him. But he starts to see her in a different way after learning she is pregnant. It drives him crazy that she won't divulge the father's identity - he wants nothing more than to bash the idiot's face in for leaving Toni in this mess. In fact, the thought of her being with another man unearths feelings he never suspected he had for her. Sure, he has always been protective of her, knew he loved her, but only in a brotherly way, right? Then why has a sneaky possessive feeling suddenly started to surface, and why can't he take his eyes off of her? And above all, where did these sexy dreams about her that feel all too real come from?

Before you even buy this book, make sure you are stocked up on tissue. I think I went through at least one box while reading Maya Banks' Seducing Simon! This book has been on my wish list for quite a while and I could kick myself for not having read it much sooner. I guarantee the story will stay with me for a long time to come and I will pull it off of the bookshelf time and time again.

Toni absolutely broke my heart. Her struggle to cope with her unrequited love for Simon and an unplanned pregnancy while also dealing with the financial pressures to make a life for herself and her child, possibly alone, would be enough to break many women. The unconditional love and support she enjoys from her brother, Simon, and their other roommate, A.J. is phenomenal, and gives her the strength to keep going. The foursome fight the major life changes they know can't be avoided as they deal with Toni's pregnancy, her brother's impending marriage, and the fact that these events will require them to separate and find new homes, leaving the unconventional, yet comfortable family nest they have built together.

Watching Toni learn how to seduce Simon is hilarious! Growing up a tomboy who never had eyes for any man but Simon, she has not had much experience developing seduction skills. Taking tips from their firefighter friends on how to catch his attention, she sets about her task with a vengeance, knowing her time is short, and she must soon tell Simon the baby is his. The changes she goes through in her attempts serve to confound Simon at every turn - and who doesn't love to watch a man in utter bewilderment trying to make sense of his own feelings as well as a woman's actions? Toni learns fast, keeping Simon on his toes as he slowly starts to realize his own feelings for her.

But the secret Toni has kept threatens everything they build. She's taken so long to spill the mystery of her baby's father that she can't quite figure how best to tell him without leaving him feeling betrayed, or worse. Readers, who enjoy an omniscient view of the tale, and the one friend she confides in, well understand and support her reasons for the delay, but empathy for Simon is present as well when he finally learns the truth. His reaction sets off a chain of events that threaten to destroy everything he holds dearest, and force him to face his innermost feelings and truths.

Maya Banks can write a tragic heroine like no one else. She knows just how to tear your heart to shreds, and then put it all back together better than it ever was before. If ever I've finished a story and started to think of the characters as real people, this would be it. The characters were so very lifelike, the situation so possible, that I could easily believe it if someone told me it was a biography. Ultimately, Seducing Simon serves to remind readers that even situations which seem impossible to recover from can have a happy ending. It is a book I'll read whenever I need to recharge my own hope.

5 out of 5 stars SEDUCING SIMON is a compelling look at love between friends   January 31, 2007

Toni Langston is pregnant with Simon's baby. She's been in love with Simon for as long as she can remember. Toni dreams of having the American dream - Simon, his baby, a house. The only problem is Toni seduced Simon while he was intoxicated and he has no memory of ever sleeping with her. Toni fears she's made the biggest mistake of her life and has no idea how she's going to tell Simon that he's the father of her baby.

Simon shares a home with Toni and her brother, Matt, as well as their friend, A.J. The three men all work for the fire department and often have shifts together so the arrangement works perfectly. Simon is grateful that Toni was there for him the night that he discovered his girlfriend cheating on him. She'd kept him company while he drowned his sorrows in alcohol. Simon only remembers Toni's being there as a friend, he doesn't remember their lovemaking.

Toni doesn't really want to move from the house she'd shared with Matt, A.J. and Simon, but she's not ready for the guys to find out about the baby. They'll have all sorts of questions and will want to know who's the father of her baby. Since Simon doesn't even remember making love with her, how could she possibly tell them that he is the father? When she'd vowed her love for him, he'd called her by his cheating girlfriend's name just before he fell asleep. Toni's plans for moving out get sidelined when A.J. finds the positive pregnancy test in the trash in her bathroom. While Matt and A.J. are bent on uncovering the name of the father of the baby, Simon is more concerned with Toni's well being and he's experiencing a resentment towards whoever fathered the baby. It would be so much less complicated if he was the father. What will happen when Simon learns the truth about what really happened the fateful night?

SEDUCING SIMON is a compelling look at love between friends and the emotional roller coaster that Toni experiences while trying to get Simon to see her as more than just a friend. Compound that with pregnancy hormones and you're in for a wild ride that will have you experiencing all of Toni's emotions throughout this book. Simon is your all around good guy. The fact that he has no idea that he's the father of the baby kept me reading through the book in anticipation of that moment when Toni reveals the truth and what his reaction is going to be. Now I'm hoping for a follow up story for A.J. as well as Toni's co-conspirator on SEDUCING SIMON, Mike. He was kind enough to give Toni pointers on seduction techniques that had Simon drooling. Mike definitely needs a story too.

5 out of 5 stars An emotional ride!   November 28, 2006

Toni Langston doesn't want to move out but feels she has no other choice. Sharing a home with her brother and his two friends for the past three years has been wonderful and Toni doesn't want to leave. Toni has two secrets, secrets her roommates can't find out. Toni is in love with one of the roommates and having his baby. There is just one problem. Simon doesn't remember making love with her. Toni doesn't want to trap him for something that is her fault and she figures that getting her own place is the easiest for all involved. Toni wants to be loved, not because of the baby, but in spite of the baby. Fate seems to be working for Toni, that is, until she tells Simon the truth and he is less than pleased.

Simon Andrews' heart falls to his feet when Toni informs him and his roommates that she is pregnant. Wanting a piece of the scoundrel who did this to Toni, Simon is irritated and dismayed when she won't name the father. Simon realizes Toni needs his support, not his anger and they grow closer. So close in fact, Simon wants Toni's baby to be his own and vows to himself he will love the baby in spite of its heritage. Things come to a head when Toni comes clean with her deception, and Simon is unable to accept her explanation. Striking out at Toni verbally, Simon lets her know exactly how he feels. It takes an accident to bring him around but will it be too late?

Seducing Simon by Maya Banks led me on an emotional roller coaster. At one point I wanted Toni to come clean with her deception and on the other hand, I was glad she had kept her secret. As for Simon? I wanted to grab him and shake him. Shuddering and rolling my eyes at his response when Toni told him the truth, I could only think of the many men who have probably had that same reaction. For all of Toni's good intentions, she was not without blame either. She could have come clean and saved herself a lot of heartache and trouble. I do understand her reasoning, and for that alone, I was on her side.

Seducing Simon tugged at my heart and made me think. I love when book do that! Because the premise and storyline involves deception, I was unsure if I would enjoy Seducing Simon. I am thrilled to say I thought it a most wonderful read. Seducing Simon will take the reader on an emotional ride that shouldn't be missed! I am glad I took the journey.

2 out of 5 stars Poor imitation of "Her Best Friend's Lover"   February 6, 2008

Toni has pined for Simon for years. He's one of her closest friends; he even shares a home with Toni, her brother Matt and their other roommate AJ. After Simon discovers his girlfriend has cheated on him, he returns home drunk and he and Toni hook up, he utters the other girl's name, promptly forgets the encounter, then Toni turns up pregnant, and not wanting to rock the boat, decides to keep it from Simon.

If the plot sounds eerily familiar, it's because Shiloh Walker's "My Best Friend's Lover," has a pretty identical plotline. But where Walker is able to tell a compelling, sexy, and romantic story, Banks fails to generate any heat or a believable storyline. It is a tepid and underdeveloped romance with characters that don't really jump off the page. With a hefty price tag, the plot is more similar to an overwrought and undeveloped pulp romance than an offering from a publisher known for racy erotic romances. Skip it and check out Walker's story instead.

5 out of 5 stars Dutifully Interesting Read   February 21, 2007

Toni Langston has been in love with Simon her roommate and one of her best friends since forever. But she has kept her feelings to herself. Along with Simon, Toni lives with their friend A.J. and her brother Matt. When Simon comes in one night from breaking up with his girlfriend, Toni is there to comfort him. And comfort him she does. The two end up in bed together. But the day after, Toni is nervous as what to say to Simon. When Simon greets her thanking her for last night Toni is confused. Realization finally dawns on her that Simon doesn't remember the night they shared together. Toni is crushed but she is also relieved, she doesn't have to explain herself or her feelings towards him. So she thinks she has escaped this situation fully.

As time passes, Toni finds out that she is pregnant with Simon's baby. Toni panics and decides she needs to move out of her parent's home that she has shared with the guys for years and into a home of her own. She wants Simon's baby and she is determined to keep the child and the child's parentage a secret from those who care the most about her. But the guys convince Toni to stay with them and she does. Toni also decides that in the process of continuing to live with the guys, she wants to try and get Simon to notice her. And she goes about doing so but will Simon be able to see Toni for more than a friend or the sexy woman she has become?

The plot for Seducing Simon really sets the story into motion and is quite alluring. It definitely draws in the reader to explore and read what will be the outcome of the book. The plot was certainly a risky undertaking but the delivery was well executed by Maya Banks. Which such a plot, one would think the character Toni would be a bad girl or a woman with less than moral scruples but it wasn't like that at all. The Toni Langston character was such a sweetheart, she just simply made a bad judgment call. Seducing Simon is a great story with a fresh idea and I recommend it.
