Product Description There is a world that mirrors our own. Everything in this world is made of substance finer than air, finer than light, finer than thought itself the aether. In the aether there are inner sensations such as ideas and feelings that are as tangible as anything in the material world. In The Mentalists Handbook, Clint Marsh gives us a glimpse of the world. He offers step-by-step exercises, detailed and beautifully written explanations and definitions, and gorgeous black and white illustrations by award-winning artist Jeff Hoke. Inspired by esoteric, occult, and magic books published over the last 150 years, Marsh has aspired to create something of singular importance in the tradition of classic occult manuals. Both practical and whimsical, and complete with visual aids, this field guide to the paranormal will appeal to students of the New Age, esoteric scholars, readers of post-modern and magical-realism, angel, ghost and fairy enthusiasts, comic and graphica fans, and artists alike.

Very Good May 31, 2008 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
In my opinion, this book is way overdue! It gives very basic yet very helpful and worthwhile advice on the principals of esoteric mentalism. Dont get it confused though - this is NOT the form of mentalism performed by the likes of David Blaine or Cris Angel. This is a form of mentalism that is based on ancient occult philosophy. I gave it four stars instead of five only because the techniques in it can be found in many other books that deal with the occult, especially the western esoteric tradition. But the good part about it is that it strictly deals with how to USE mentalism without all of the theological and metaphysical strings attached! So, it is a system by itself, not a system WITHIN another system, like most other books: for example mentalism used with wicca, or used with Hermetic philosophy, or used with Golden Dawn systems, etc.. it is just pure mentalism all on it's own - and that is a very good thing. The powers, wonders and techniques of mentalism can be put to very good use in your life WITHOUT also having to subscribe to any other Magickal or Metaphysical system. Of course you can blend it with whatever you believe or practice now - but if you don't want to, that is fine too - and the book will help you regardless of what you believe. If you're already VERY well educated in the Occult and/or Magick - and have a pretty good understanding of Hermeticism, Thelema, Astral Travel, the Body of Light, etc.. then you may be wasting your time with this book. But if the subject is new to you, or if you want to dig deeper, than this book will guide you along the right path. So, if you're an Adept, don't bother - but then again, how many of us really are adepts? Otherwise - buy the book, you won't be disappointed!
Such a clever book July 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book struck me as something Harry Potter might have tucked away in his backpack at Hogwarts. It was purposely written in a charming, arcane style perfectly fitting of the subject matter. The illustrations, also, are brilliant.
Yet beyond this pleasant presentation, the book is also quite meaty, delivering much information on the paranormal and specifically, astral dynamics. I enjoyed it quite a lot and recommend it to anyone interested in this subject matter.
