We didn't need this and here is why.. May 21, 2008 21 out of 24 found this review helpful
The 'Playlist Plus' is supposedly a new series that tries to bring 3 discs worth of material covering certain artists. The problem is not the music, but at this point they are all rather superflous. If you're familiar with "The Millenium Collection" series it is EXACTLY the same as this, just collected all in one place with a new cover, as opposed to 3 separate volumes. I mean, with approximately 10 hits collections already on the market, did Kiss really need another that covers no new ground? Additionally, the 3 discs are nowhere near full as they could have easily sliced this into 2 discs OR added more songs.
This collection's 3 CDs devote 12 songs to each decade from the 70's-90's, each disc representing one decade. If you were a fan of Kiss can you imagine trying to chop down what they accomplished in the 70's to 12 songs? Well, that's what disc 1 tries to do here.
That is reason enough not to purchase this set. The 2 disc collection "Kiss Gold" gives you 4 more songs for a total of 40 on two solid, packed to the gills CDs of prime classic music from the 'original band' for about 10-15 bucks less. Be aware, however, that the "Gold" collection stops in the early 80's. Either way, I wouldn't go here.
zzzzz...Universal, again, tries to cash in on KISS rehash... June 15, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I gave this cd set 5 stars only becuase...it's KISS!!! It's not even a good intro. compilation for the band, with the exception of disc #2, where, it does bring together a very good collection of KISS songs from the 80's. Otherwise, this set doesn't give justice to what KISS offered in the 70's and just throws out there some songs from the 90's--but doens't really include the best from Revenge or Carnival of Souls..and the could have omitted the Unplugged tracks to do so.
If YOU WANT THE BEST of KISS, get the following on cd and dvd:
The ALIVE CD Box Set (Which has ALIVE I,II, II and the REAL ALIVE IV (The millenium concert)
The KISSOLOGY DVDS Vol. I, II and III
CREATURES OF THE NIGHT CD REVENGE CD CARNIVAL OF SOULS CD ROCK N. ROLL OVER CD and HOTTER THAN HELL CD
KISS EXPOSED DVD
KISS EXTREME CLOSE UP / CONFIDENTIAL DVD
KISS KILLERS (Import CD)--The "new" tracks on them are some of the best KISS studio songs they recorded with ERIC CARR on the drums.
KISS ACE FREHLEY & PAUL STANLEY 1978 SOLO CDS
for KISS solo stuff, get:
ACE FREHLEY--FREHEY'S COMET, SECOND SIGHTING AND TROUBLE WALKING CDS
PETER CRISS -- CRISS: CAT #1 (Hard to find cuase out of print) cd
UNION--SELF TITLED and THE BLUE ROOM CDs (Bruce Kulick's band after he was in KISS)
PAUL STANLEY - LIVE TO WIN CD
ESP LIVE DVD (The ERIC SINGER Project LIVE in Australia: with BRUCE KULICK, JOHN CORABI (UNION, MOTLEY CRUE) and CHUCK GARRICK (ALICE COOPER'S current bassist).
OK, I listed like 20 cds/dvds, but there's like about 40-50 KISS releases total out there...These are the best KISS has had to offer in their 35+year carreer.
Check em out!
Another KISS comp ... this time all encompassing June 9, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you can't splurge for the band's box set, this is probably the best place to go for a retrospective of the band in each era. It's not definitive, but it does give a nice look at what the band was up to - not only in the 70's - but in the 80's and 90's, as well.
As a die hard fan, we have it all, but for the uninitiated, this is a good place to start. Otherwise, splurge for the box set. KISS Playlist Plus is a remastered 3-disc, 36-track compilation that has nice packaging at an affordable price.
For those who don't know this is a repackaging of the three volumes (which are sold seperately) of the KISS 20th Century Masters releases.
Playlist Plus...been there, done that.... June 8, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Imagine that, another Greatest Hits collection from Kiss, next you will tell me that that they are thinking of replacing original members so KISS can go on forever. If you are a fan of the band, you have everything in this set. If this is your first look at KISS, buy Alive! and Alive II, that is where you get the real sound of KISS. If you can't get to see KISS live, buy Kissology Volume 1. That is the true KISS. KISS will always be Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter. No matter what Gene says, KISS is on its last legs as it continues to spit in the face of its fans. Skip this money grab set of cds....it is a waste of your time and money.
No New Material... Again July 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a waste of time. Paul Stanley keeps saying people don't want new KISS music, but what makes the record company think we want the same songs over and over again, but in a different order? This is a waste. KISS, put out something new or hang it up already!
