I wondered how Cho could have so much success.... May 23, 2002 28 out of 31 found this review helpful
Having heard of Cho's success, with a church of more than 800,000 Christians, I wondered how he did it. What was his gimmick? Clever doctrine? A Feel-Good message? I was prepared not to like him much. After reading of his heart for the lost, his love for Christ, his unabashed humility, his humor, I could see he was very unlike me...in all the ways that matter most to God. Cho is a man of prayer and devotion to the Lord. His life of sacrifice, obedience, and trust in the Lord reveal the secret to his success: Jesus Christ. I am grateful for both the minister and his message... This is a book that will draw you closer to the heavenly realm.
One of the most Amazing books I've ever seen...volume II... December 4, 2002 23 out of 25 found this review helpful
Volume II is basically a better written and improved version of Volume I, and it really is amazing! It's the more interdenominational book of the two as well, and I prefer it partly for this reason. It's definitely different from Vol 1; it should retain its own listing here in Amazon! Dr. David (Paul) Yonggi Cho is easily one of the most inspirational people in my life, and The Fourth Dimension, Vol. 2 is the reason why. As another reader has mentioned, Cho's secret to success is simple: a dynamically impacting, spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ! The chapters are: 1. The Holy Spirit and You, 2. The Fourth Dimension, 3. The Renewing of the Mind, 4. The Creative Ability of Your Words, and 5. Love: The Motivational Force. The first printing was in 1983; it's currently carried by Bridge-Logos Publishing. R. Whitney Manzano, Ph.D.= co-writer. It clearly explains: the Holy Spirit, visions & dreams, Christian living- even prayer & success! It's the creativity, perception, intelligence, and spiritual motivation in this book that make it such an incredibly effective, yet still simple description of the Christian life today. Highly recommended! ---Volume II= ISBN 088270561X---
What an eye-opener! July 18, 1998 21 out of 23 found this review helpful
Dr. Cho so clearly desribes such basic truths about prayer and believing, and how the Word, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, does what it is purposed to do. He takes you through each step he took in his ministry, from praying for a bicycle - a certain bicycle - and God's answer to that prayer, to building his ministry and believing for large numbers of souls. The ministry in his teachings has quickened my spirit, and I can't wait to apply these methods in my personal life and use them to help others.
General evaluation of the Fourth Dimension April 13, 2005 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
1.Is this an in-depth presentation In the Fourth Dimension, Yonggi Cho introduces the reader to the dimension of the Spirit. This book is written for the `beginner' and covers six different aspects of the fourth dimension. The book is written at a level of detail that would give the reader a good `working' knowledge of the dimension of spirit. That being said, it is interesting to me that Christians often find the presentation hard to understand and in some cases the book is viewed as dangerous and bordering on New Age philosophy! This could indicate that even though the topic is discussed at an introductory level a certain level of spiritual maturity is required to appropriately integrate the information in the book into one's spiritual life.
2.To what extent does the author address current situations The Fourth Dimension is a very practical book. It addresses age old questions like how can I achieve personal success and how can I minister effectively. It pulls back the curtain and teaches the reader what is happening behind the scenes, in the spiritual world. In this way the reader is empowered to align himself with the ways of the spiritual world.
3.Was there any new information This is the third time that I've read the Fourth Dimension and this time there was one particular teaching that really spoke to me. Yonggi Cho explains that we are the creators of our own salvation by speaking the Word of Faith. Don't misunderstand me. Jesus achieved EVERYTHING on the cross, but Yonggi Cho teaches that without the spoken Word of Faith the free gift of salvation remains a gift UNWRAPPED!! We unwrap this gift by speaking out and acting on what God has deposited in our hearts. Something else that I found valuable was that Yonggi Cho instructs the reader to read the bible to build up his faith. I have always been inclined to read the bible to search out more legalistic rules for living, so when I read that we should be studying the bible to renew our thinking life it was like a revelation to me. My bible reading has been changed forever.
4.What impact did the book have on me The Fourth Dimension has changed me. It has changed my prayer life in the sense that I now pray with the aid of mental pictures. I also expect God to be moving on my behalf and acting on my prayers. It has taught me that I am a co-worker with God, made in His image and that He expects me to move in miracles and resurrection power.
5.Any other positive or negative perceptions The Fourth Dimension is a dangerous book. People that lust after power will especially find this book tempting. The temptation is to think that one can move by the power of faith on one's own steam and that God can be left behind. When this happens the person will automatically attract demonic forces and will start dabbling in sorcery and witchcraft. Is it any wonder then that God says that rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft. The safeguard is obedience and submission to the authority of God.
A "How To" Use Your Faith Book! July 9, 2003 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
The Bible tells us that each of us has been given a measure of faith. Dr. Cho teaches in this book that it has been given to be used. He then proceeds to show how to use faith in the practical world of daily life. He describes the incubation process of "things hoped for" as consisting of: 1) envisioning a clear-cut objective 2) having a burning desire 3) praying for assurance and 4) speaking the word. Cho discusses the importance of what goes on in the heart and mind. The incubation takes place in one's thoughts. On page 31 he ties this into verbalizing what is in one's heart by noting "your word is the material which the Holy Spirit uses to create." This mysterious fourth dimension is the dimension of the spirt. Dr. Cho teaches that it governs the material dimension. "Visions and dreams are the language of the fourth dimension, and the Holy Spirit communicates through them" (p. 44). He points out that both good and evil are created in that mysterious dimension. He goes on to bring into his discussion various passages from the Bible about desires and dreams. Perfectionism is addressed. Dr. Cho says God does not use you because you are completely faultless, but because you have faith. This book is solidly based on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Dr. Cho has the results to verify that he has practiced what he teaches.
