Amazon.com Review Anthony Horowitz's enormously popular series about the worlds premier teenage spy, returns for another round with secret agent Alex Rider fighting ingenious villains and charming every girl he meets. Eagle Strike, Horowitzs fourth fictional foray into the world of British spy agency MI6, starts out calmly enough as Alex and his lovely companion, Miss Sabina Pleasure, vacation with her family in the south of France. But before you can say Goldfinger, Alex spots his old nemesis, renowned assassin Yassen Gregorovich, on the beach. What Alex discovers is a plan so diabolical that it makes all of his previous adventures seem like a stroll in the Queen Mums garden. Alex must fight to keep Gregorovich from executing the plans of a mysterious and murderous madman--an operation code named "Eagle Strike." He will just have to face down a few minor complications first: a virtual reality game that inflicts real pain; a fleet of Porche 911 GT3-driving hit men; and even a near fatal brush with death aboard the most famous aircraft in the world, Air Force One. But hell persevere, or his name isnt Rider: Alex Rider. Eagle Strike, like all of the ridiculously fun Alex Rider adventures, is a pure guilty pleasure from start to finish. Even the most reluctant of readers wont be able to resist Alexs Bond-like ingenuity and charisma. Anthony Horowitz is a master of pacing, and as Alex swings from one cliff-hanging chapter to the next, Horowitz proves that you dont have to be Shakespeare to pen a crackerjack plot! --Jennifer Hubert

The Hidden Truth -- a review by Gregory, age 10 May 8, 2004 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
While Alex is enjoying his vacation in southern France with Sabina (his girlfriend) and her family, he spots Yassen Gregorovich, the assassin who killed his uncle, Ian Rider. Shortly afterward, a `dreadful accident' puts a quick end to the vacation. When Alex discovers Yassen's cell phone has a speed dial, he dials the number and hears the voice of super-celebrity Damian Cray. Once Alex returns to London and tries to contact MI6, they don't believe him. After failing to convince MI6 of Cray's guilt, Alex sets off to prove it himself. His quest leads him to the headquarters of Cray Software Technology in Amsterdam. At the end of the book, Alex has uncovered a truth that has been concealed from him for his entire life, and will alter his entire future.Horowitz has created another superb novel starring Alex Rider, the first (and possibly last) teenager to work for MI6. This book is amazing. As is to be expected of Horowitz, Eagle Strike is action-packed to the brim. With car and motorcycle chases, exploding hotdog stands, hidden explosives, and bullfighting, Eagle Strike will keep you on the edge of your seat, even once you've read it through. The finish is stellar and forces you to guess about the next in the series.

Relaxing in the south of France with Sabina Pleasure and her family , Alex is able to act and do things as a normal teenager would and he doesn't even think of MI6 until someone who Alex does not know who attacked his hosts. This sends him back into the world of decieving and spying.Alex is determind to defeat his hosts enemy and find out why they did it.He knows his enemy is going to be smart when he finds out it is Damian Cray the mastermind behind the new games console Gamelayer which has pain synthesis installed.Damian Cray tries to outwit Alex time after time but the young MI6 spy doesn't give up.It is a great book for suspense and tension.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a teenage spy? If you have, then this is the book for you. Alex Rider is a 14 year old boy who never knew his father. His uncle, John Rider, who worked for MI6, told him that his father died in a plane crash and had been training to be a spy all his life only Alex just didn't no it yet. One day, Alex's uncle dies while on a mission and Alex is contacted by MI6. Soon after, Alex is sent on a number of missions by MI6.
In Eagle Strike, the story begins with an assassination in the amazon jungle then jumps ahead 15 years to where Alex is on holiday in France. When the house where his is staying with his girlfriend and her family is blown up, he assumes he is the one they were after and when he spots his arch enemy he is sure of it. But after discovering his girlfriend's father who is a journalist was the intended victim Alex sets out to discover what's going on. If you like action and adventure, you should read this book. I also recommend The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches as a good action fantasy.
So far the greatest in the series April 15, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I got Eagle Strike in from London a few weeks ago because I just couldn't wait for it to come out in the US. I like to read books about young agents, like Alex Rider, and enjoy movies about them, such as Agent Cody Banks (even though it was a little over-rated). Point Blank had let me down a little but I love the series and Anthony Horowitz has kept it alive with this one. It is a must read for anyone who has kept up with the series or has even read the first, Stormbreaker. I would be devestated if Anthony Horowitz slowed down with writing the books. It is pretty fast paced after the begining. In the car chase, Horowitz has great taste and chose the perfect Porche. Damian Cray was not as I thought he would be but I also hadn't read very many reviews of the book. Yassen Gregorovich had been a facination of mine since the end of Stormbreaker and I am glad he was back. Towards the end of the book some things were revealed that I had suspected from the begining and want to know more about in the next book, Scorpia, which I have coming in a few weeks from London. It is highly anticipated and sure to be great after this work. I would highly recommend you get Eagle Strike at the first possible opportunity.
Best of this brilliant series! July 6, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Eagle Strike is the perfect teen spy novel. Combining action across numerous European countries, celebrities who aren't what they seem, Air Force One, politics, and enough chase scenes to keep you on the edge of your seat the entire book, this is undoubtedly the best Alex Rider adventure yet. Rider is holidaying in France with Sabina, his new best friend, and her family, when the man he fears most - Russian contract killer Yassen Gragorovich - shows up to make things interesting. Yassen seems to be uninterested in Alex, not even knowing he's in the area, but Rider being a suspicious kid cannot help but get in his way. After going out one day, he returns to find the house he's been staying at has been blown up, and Sabina's father in intensive care. This leads to the discovery of a strange plot involving a famous singer, Damien Cray, who has developed a world-beating video game system named Gameslayer. This seems to be nothing more than a marketing move sure to pay off dividends for Cray, but the more Alex Rider delves into this Gameslayer and Damien Cray, who was on the end of a phone Alex called from France after the bombing, the more sinister Cray's part in the events becomes. This leads to Alex travelling around Europe with his trusty guradian Jack in search of the truth and the bad guys, but the bad guys find him first. Rider is stuck in the middle of a plan with deadly consequences. The world's most powerful celebrity has control of the world's most dangerous weapons, and his intentions are unthinkable. A brilliant climax will have you on edge waiting to know how things work out. An explosive secret regarding Alex's history will also be unearthed! A must read novel for fans of the series. If you haven't started the Alex Rider series yet, start now!!! Much recommended.
