Product Description Marauding gangs have become a fact of life in the U.S., but where did these violent groups come from, and why are they so appealing to so many youths today? This comprehensive guide provides answers to these questions and more. It will open your eyes to a world few of us know, but most of us fear.

Very informative and enlightening! June 5, 1998 16 out of 19 found this review helpful
The author of this book is a former Correctional Officer. He served as his prison's gang intelligence officer so he provides plenty of first-hand expertise. This book really goes into depth with respect to revealing the gang world. Methods of recruitment, training, and how gangs make their money in and out of prison are all covered. A very good read if you're really serious about learning and understanding the "gang life."
Indispensable book for Gang investigators/officers November 25, 1999 13 out of 15 found this review helpful
If you deal with Gangs at all from the patrol to investigative fields, this is your book. Gangs are infulencing every aspect of society including the military...that's why the Navy's NCIS used this book as a reference! It is highly informative and will give you the necessary training to start you out in this field and keep you going. Of course gangs change signs, tactics and methods as they see fit so certain portions will obviously be out of date but that is inevidable. This manual should be purchased and read by patrol officers up to senior supervisors. Like that saying goes, the more you know the more you grow (and stay alive to beat the bad guys).
Good, If Slightly Outdated, Info on Gangs April 16, 2006 Although the book is a bit outdated, it's a very good book on all manner of street gangs. And though it doesn't cover the gangs of the area I live in, the information is still valid and pretty well relevant. If you have children and want to learn what to watch out for, or if you're in a profession that deals with them, then this book is a must. Especially if you combine it with the other book by Mr Valentine.
A History October 7, 2006 This book gives you a great look inside prison gangs and their roots, most information comes from the west coast.
Street Gangs Book May 14, 2007 I enjoyed receiving this book. It is full of useful information and a welcome addition to anyone's library who works on the street gang issue.
