THE PHOTO DEOS NOT DO THE COLLECTION JUSTICE November 20, 2006 26 out of 38 found this review helpful
When I first saw this set I was impressed. However the photo and description does not serve the item justice. Upon looking at amazon's photo, I got the impression that it was all in one box. The photo is a side view. The are in a keep box with 5 boxes one for each season. To a serious collector such as myself it is a beautiful thing. I do not really know how many dvds I own. I have selving from one end of our bedroom to the other about 16 feet. I have DVDs going onto 4 rows so space is a premium. We are not even going to talk about the folders of shows I bought off ebay.I am estimating about 3000 dvd. One major difference between amazon and ebay is that 99% of dvd I bought off ebay is bootleg. Amazon and it's pro-marketplace sellers sell only quaity DVD amazon guantees your sale. They have a A to Z promise that if a seller does not perform or if a buyer lies about recieving a item amzon will back the sale. It is a win win. Back to the product. It is beatifully packaged, the image is excellent considering the age of these fantastic episodes. This is when we still had writers. Now today eveything or almost everything is re-written. There are occassionally a few good things that come out. C.S.I., Ghost whisperer, etc. My advice to you is to buy this set. Get it from amazon or a marketplace seller. The extras are incredible. I won't spoil the fun by saying anymore. Enjoy. Do the right thing and give yourself a well deserved present. Click that button now and go for 2 day delivery, you'll be glad you did. You are worth it!
Buyer Beware of some sets with lousy transfers... April 11, 2008 26 out of 35 found this review helpful
First off, yes this is a 5 star show. I'm marking low as a heads up that I got two brand new boxsets and the first show on the first disc had digital dropout and became unplayable! Both times right out of the brand new box. Kudos to Amazon for facilitating a replacement boxset the first time and issuing a credit after the second time. But I suspect there was a bad lot of these with flawed transfers. Luckily I spotted it on the first disc right away and not 6 months later on a later disc after it would've been past the warranty for returns. And yes, my dvd player works fine and we use it all the time with Netflix DVDs and that technical problem has yet to be replicated. Anyway, best show ever. Just preview those discs asap.
TWILIGHT ZONE AND MORE TWILIGHT ZONE ! December 28, 2006 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
Hello all,I purchased this before xmas. What an outstanding collection all 156 episodes all uncut and in glorious black and white. In order and by seasons even the 4th season which featured one hour episodes. From 1959 thru 1964 these chilling tales have captured the young and old throughout the years and never losing its popularity. While growing up in new york city in the 1960's the twilight zone was a way of life in reruns. My favorites to name a few is the howling man,the after hours, will the real martians please stand up,time enough at last, nightmare at 20,000 feet, and it keeps going on and on.Well worth the money and the transfer are superb same with the soundtracks.the bonuses is very extensive ranging from bloopers to commercials to comic books even a satire from saturday night live show.in retropect everything you always wanted to know about the twilight zone is here, what is outstanding is stars like rod taylor and burgess meredith sharing their views on twilight zone experiences. The only draw back i see is that there is no play all, each episodes must be clicked on when one finishes instead of the older zone sets where you had a play all.But if you have the love and passion for the original twilight zone then the definitive set is just well worth your time and money.....excellent journey into THE TWILIGHT ZONE.....
Why isn't Season 1 captioned???? March 9, 2007 19 out of 56 found this review helpful
I own the complete set of The Twilight Zone from Seasons 1 through 5. The sets for Seasons 2-5 have closed captions. They are a blessing because we are able to completely enjoy the programs which were part of our childhood years. Why isn't Season 1 captioned???? When can we expect Image or another company to pick up the ball and get that season captioned? I have no doubt that if this is done, many customers with hearing loss will surely want to get their hands on that set and watch the proceedings. The explanation for my rating is that a 5 is given to the quality of the Twilight Zone programs in all five sets and a 0 for the lack of captioning for Season One which provides an overall rating of 3.
Have your own Twilight Zone marathon! January 26, 2007 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I'd give this set 4.5 stars but Amazon won't let me. I rate the series 5 stars and the DVD set 4 stars.
The navigation on the DVD sets themselves could have been better. There's no 'play all' feature and when you pick an episode, it takes you to a chapter list where you pick chapter 1 to start the episode. When the episode ends, you're taken back to that episodes' chapter list, not the menu where you pick another episode. There's no Spanish subtitle feature available on any of the seasons.
Picture and sound are excellent. This show is great in black and white, color would ruin it. Some of the episodes have commentaries by actors who starred in the episode - they range from informative (Where is Everybody?, Long Distance Call) to a hoot (The Long Morrow) to don't bother (The Last Night of a Jockey). Other extras include present-day interviews with episode writers as well as some footage from the late 50s-early 60s with Rod Serling.
Once you start watching this DVD set, you won't be able to stop!
