WHERE do these guys get their ideas?!?!? June 1, 2008 30 out of 192 found this review helpful
A parody of "Goodnight Moon" that mocks the scandals and disgraces of an outgoing President? I LOVED it! Or at least I loved it back when it was "Goodnight Room," which appeared in the December 2000 issue of Mad Magazine. Their article was about... wait for it... Bill Clinton leaving the Oval Office after 8 years. And with all the clever details in the artwork that changed from page to page, too.
Sample text from the original: "And as he turned out the light/ Bill said goodnight / To his health plan that flopped / And the bombs his planes dropped / And to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" / And to pants that fell / Goodnight lies / Goodnight fries / Goodnight soft money with Chinese ties / And to Newt and to Tripp and to biting his lip / And to blowing on his sax 'cause he thought it looked 'hip'."
I've got a great suggestion for these two brilliant satirists and their next groundbreaking project: how about spoofing Barack Obama as a black spy, fighting John McCain as a white spy?
Great Book May 27, 2008 28 out of 32 found this review helpful
Great book. This book has the enlightening quality of inviting you to look at the events of the past 8 years through childrens' eyes. All of the horror and humor this book evokes is conjured with such naked simplicity, it's hard to imagine a more appropriate historical record for this administration. The illustrations compliment the text with potent imagery and symbolism. There's a lot of detail that may go unnoticed at first glance...look closely.
Not for those unwilling to pull their head from the sand... May 28, 2008 27 out of 31 found this review helpful
If you still believe Bush won't be remembered as one of the worst presidents in U.S. history, this book won't change your mind. But if your trust in this administration has finally been crushed under the weight of its lies, corruption, greed, and arrogance -- or if you never trusted the administration in the first place -- you'll find Goodnight Bush to be a brutally clever critique of the sins of the Decider, Big Time, Rummy, the Boy Genius, Brownie, Speedy, et. al. Be sure to pay attention to the illustrations, which are chock full of humorous detail!
Funny and scary May 28, 2008 24 out of 30 found this review helpful
Goodnight moon is a simple bedtime tale of a child saying goodnight to everything around. Goodnight Bush is a perfect parody with a bedtime tale saying goodnight to everything our current administration had wrought. The art is perfect and the book, which will take five minutes to read, will capture with pinpoint sarcasm just how badly this country has fared in the last eight years. Funny, yet frightening. This is one night we will want to be over.
