Simple and DELICIOUS recipes April 10, 2008 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
What a great cookbook! I heard Katie's interview on the Howard Stern show and became interested in this book. I must say that I was so pleased at the array of "down home" comfort foods presented in this book. I have many cookbooks and cook VERY OFTEN. I found it refreshing that she came out with a book that was simply stated and easy to follow. It was so nice to read a cookbook that called for easy-to-find ingredients as it seems recipes are always calling for obscure spices and ingredients that are not readily available to everyone. I would highly recommend this book to "new" cooks and anyone who is looking for truly delicious "comfort food" recipes!! Yummy! Great Job Katie!!
A very accessible cookbook... April 14, 2008 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
The very title of the book tells us that it was not written for the advanced cook or those who want to explore the sophisticated flavors we often expect from a Thomas Keller or Jean Georges Vongerichten. The author's lackluster stint as host of the "Top Chef" TV gave me little encouragement to buy the book. After browsing the content of the book, I was however motivated to make the purchase as many recipes promise different but simple take on familiar dishes. I am glad I did since a few of the recipes I tried (Broccoli Salad, Slow Cooker Pulled Pork Barbecue) proved to be winners. Mrs. Joel convinced me that she is sharing generously from her personal culinary experience that I look forward to recreating more of the simple but very satisfying food. Just the way comfort food should be (I don't want clever concoction).
Simply Delicious and Beautiful! March 28, 2008 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
I received my cookbook a couple of days ago and was immediately very impressed by the layout, the food images and the beauty that Katie Lee is. All the images match the feeling of the recipes; comfortably chic. i put one of the recipes to the test last night, the tuna meatballs and mango chutney....huge hit and simple! She created a perfect combination of her southern roots and her current nyc lifestyle(I want to go food shopping with her after seeing the photos!). I can't wait to try more recipes and to gift this book to others.
Fun to read...Very well done April 1, 2008 10 out of 18 found this review helpful
Fun to read. Lots of photos and full of simple and tasty recipes. The little stories at the top of each recipe put additional meaning to the recipe and is very inspiring. Great quality. I have over 800 cookbooks and this will be at the top of my favorites.
Worth it alone for the meatloaf recipe! April 29, 2008 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is one of my favorite cookbooks in a long time. Don't knock Katie Lee because she is beautiful, skinny, and married to my husbands favorite singer. This girl can cook and her recipes prove it. I had to make the meatloaf aka manloaf for my husband. She's right, men do love meatloaf and not only did he eat way more of it than he ever does mine, I ate just as much! The best ever!!! I have tried many of the recipes and they are easy, filling, and just darned good. The mediterranean pasta, chicken club salad, and her grandma's biscuits are so delicious. I plan on trying most of her recipes because it's "familiar" to me and brings back memories of my mom and grandma in the kitchen cooking. I was always in the way though and got shooed out most of the time.
I appreciate all her personal pictures too - of her and the food. She seems like a really nice girl who I could be friends with. So, if she should ever invite me over, I'd accept!
