Hey patriarch does god tell you to judge? February 6, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Patriarch you did not read the book so stop preaching to people. God does not judge by appearance and that does not give you the right to either. Look into your own miserable life to see why you are such a miserable rotton person.
Great concept, interesting stories January 7, 2008 I honestly wasn't expecting this book to be that good. I picked it up out of idle curiosity, having some experience with tattoos myself. To my pleasant surprise, it was so fascinating that I read it through without putting it down this afternoon.
The tattooed women who share their stories here defy categorization, and run the gamut from executives to artists to stay-at-home moms. There's an 80 year old grandmother who gets a tattoo and a new sports car on her birthday; a corporate go-getter who surprises her colleagues by revealing her inked legs; a college student, and, most amusingly, a 4 year old who is too young to get a real ink, but has a mania for temporary tattoos. The most interesting stories in the book are those by female tattoo artists, who relate their struggles to battle sexism, establish their own studios, and thrive in a male-dominated environment.
Some of the stories in the book are too far similar to each other to be interesting-- butterflies on the ankle, kanji, flowers and aghast parents make several appearances, and get boring after a while -- but by and large, the tales shared here are engaging and intriguing.
If you're tattooed yourself, you'll probably find yourself nodding knowingly when Hudson's authors talk of the discrimination, stares and negative attitudes they have faced. If you're not tattooed, the book may help dispel some of the myths and stereotypes surrounding body art and provide more insight into the people who wear it. Recommended.
Great Books March 10, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a very good book. If your intrested in knowning why your dog does some of the crazy things he does, this is the book for you to read. It's full of great answers to very intresting questions.
i was also slightly disapointed May 27, 2008 i was hoping to see some pics of ink to go with the stories. the stories are great, but with pics? would have been perfect. i'm in generous mood today, so i gave it 4 stars, when it should only get 3.
