Great read October 6, 2008 I purchased this for my father for his birthday. Its a wonderful reminder to let the ones we love know we love them EVERYDAY.
I wish I had like the book more, but.... October 6, 2008 There's not much to learn after reading this book, I regret to say. It does not work as a self-help book nor to families whom are dealing with cancer patientes.
I have a close relative of mine (my only sister) who is 47 years-old and has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. I bought this book in the hope of getting some orientation about it.
No. Randy puts a brave struggle in the face of near death, but, as a lot of researches show, most patients faced withe terminal cancer (mainly the young patientes like Randy and with finantial resources at his disposal) put up a brave struggle against it. As for the self-help part, there are a lot of cliches and, unfortunately, Pausch - or his ghost writer - are not very good writers. Like someone else said, there's no substance here. The writing is flat, boring and, as a self-help book, is one of the worst I've ever read.
I'm sorry to say that about a book written by a already dead man, but it's my impression of the book.
Uplifting October 8, 2008 This book, is not the "Last Lecture" that was given as I had originally thought. It was a very candid account of Randy Pausch's life, ideas, trials and tribulations of cancer, and overall lessons Randy wanted to put into his lecture. An addition to his "Last Lecture" so to speak. A very heart warming, uplifting and "tear jerker" book that was nice to read. Made me appreciate everything that I have in life.
One soul touches the world. October 8, 2008 Randy let behind a gift - his wisdom, lessons learned, and bright outlook on an often, unforgiving world. It is a peek into the life of another - rich with encouragement and reminders of how we need to view the life we have been given. I am richer for having read this book (in addition to viewing the lecture on the internet.)
Christmas Presents October 9, 2008 I purchased 3 copies of the Last Lecture for my grandchildren for x mas gifts. The book is going to be required reading from Nanny. I can't imagine any better advice than this book.
