Bionic Mediocrity :-(~ September 15, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was so looking forward to a resurgence of sci-fi cool. When I heard that the creators of Battlestar Galactica were involved in the Bionic Woman, I thought how could I go wrong...? Boy did it go wrong! The B.W. pilot was a mish mash of poor character development, cheap looking special effects, even cheaper sound effects (what was with that Fred Flintstone foot pitter patter when the B.W. was supposed to be running fast?) and very poor choices in the hideous score music. I found myself wincing my eyes at the trite dialog all throughout and I also had a great deal of difficulty believing that Jaime didn't want to just march right back down to that mountain bunker and get the other arm fixed after that fight with the superior cyborg Katee Sackhoff. I really found myself not caring very much for any of the characters in B.W. because they just weren't that interesting.
Bionic blunder... September 18, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Pros: Interesting retelling of the origin story. Cute leading lady. Decent cinematography.
Cons: Terrible dialogue. Poor execution of dialogue. No chemistry between any of the characters. (Bionic Woman's nemesis didn't seem menacing; she was more "too cool for this dialogue".) Goofy execution of "chinese flying" special effect.
No Wonder NBC Is Starving For A Hit..... This Isn't It. September 21, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Having never seen the original Bionic Woman, I can't compare between that one and the current remake however, based on what I have seen, I can now understand why NBC hasn't had a hit for awhile. NBC has been promoting Bionic Women all over the place (even in movie theaters) yet for all the hypying they did for this, I don't see this show lasting the season.
I felt it was slow moving with nothing major happening until the end. Also, the editing was done very lousy. Instead of showing the "procedure", they quickly gave us a glimpse then cut away to the next scene. It would have been nice had they showed in detail (or at least something) that explains exactly what was involved.
The "dream sequence" was lame and felt kinda rushed. Why did the writer think we needed the scene where Jaime dreams of her new abilites instead of Will just telling her and demonstrating them? I felt this was a cop out and could have been written better.
The teaser to was pretty weak. I didn't understand what was trying to be conveyed to the audience and if your trying to sell a Pilot, it has to be better then what was shown. It has to grab the audience to make us keep coming back week to week and based on the pilot alone, I don't think Bionic Women has a chance in hell of lasting the season.
Finally a good action sci-fi on network TV! September 10, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The action and special effects were very much like that of the Matrix. The Bionic Woman is like the female Neo! There is great potential for a lot of plot. It was very visually entertaining. However, there wasn't enough character development to start out. I felt a bit disconnected from most of the people that we meet. Since this is going to be a serial drama, I hope that they begin to develop them soon. I also felt it was a bit unclear as to what this secret organization really does (although, maybe that is what we are meant to find out in the future). I really think that it will do well since Bionic Woman will appeal to the those who are looking for some action and suspense. I just hope that this doesn't get cut like many of last years serial dramas... right before you get the answers to all of the questions they incur.
Bionic Wishes for Grown Women, but Strong Enough for a Man too! September 11, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
As a preteen girl, I faithfully watched "The Six Million Dollar Man" and "The Bionic Woman," wishing that I could run like the wind and catch the bad guy. As an adult woman, however, I can appreciate the campyness of these 1970s TV phenomenons. When I heard that "Bionic Woman" was being remade, I was concerned that it might be too campy or silly for me to continue to follow my childhood dream. Boy, was I thrilled to see that this young bionic woman has matured right along with me! This series will be the new "Heroes" of this 2007 TV season without question. The creators have laid out this story in a real world with real people facing real problems. Therefore, there is a dark ambience that builds the viewer's anticipation. From the first bolt out of the gate, this cast has chemistry plus, which is only enhanced by the presence of Katee Sackhoff, who developed a great fan base while starring in SciFi's cutting edge series "Battlestar Galactica." All in all, this series really runs on all cylinders from the very first few shots and keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole wild ride. In some ways, this is "The Bourne" series meets "The Matrix," offering intrigue and action plus restrained science fiction with relational entanglements on the sides. I'm so glad Jamie is back. Even at forty, I can still enjoy my dream that one day, I'll run like the wind, and catch the bad guy.
