2 out of 5 stars Very Dissapointing   June 6, 2007

I would not recommend this book to any mom who is looking for a fun easy to relate to book. I thought this book was going to be something that it was not. It is more like a self help book that is not funny at all. One mother actualy admits to wearing depends because she has no time to go to the bathroom. Give me a break. If your a mother who has no idea how to be a mom and needs some reasurance this is a good book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Now this is a great book!   April 15, 2007

This really is a great book. I was surprised how much I liked it. It was funny, light hearted and a quick read. The quotes are fabulous. They have these dirty little secrets that resonate with each and everyone of us. We all can relate to this book. If you are a mom you have got to read this book to realize that eventhough you feel like you are alone, you are not alone and we are all in this together. They discuss as moms how we put way too much pressure on ourselves, we have an unrealistic image of what a good mom is, and that you know what we don't have to be perfect all of the time. They do all of this in such a light hearted way with amazing quotes from fantastic women. i hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did! It is perfect over a glass of wine or a nice bubble bath. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Required Reading   April 19, 2007

I laughed. I cried. I hyperventilated. But mostly I felt relief upon completing "I Was a Really Good Mom Before I Had Kids". With wit and candor Trisha Ashworth and Amy Nobile unveil the hidden truisms of modern motherhood that we as mothers have an incomprehensible problem getting a grip on. What is so phenomenal about this book is that not only does it outline the challenges that mothers face today and provide reasons for those challenges, but it offers real solutions and a path to happiness and contentment. Through first person quotes and anonymous "dirty little secrets" Ashworth and Nobile help us realize we are not alone, and encourage us to sit back, reasses, take a breath and even (dare I say) relax. Cudos to them - this reallly should be required reading for all mothers with small children.

5 out of 5 stars good for dads too   May 9, 2007

Very interesting and very witty take on how challenging motherhood (and fatherhood) can be. I thought it all rang very true.... especially about the the overblown and idealic expectations that we have for oursleves as parents and spouses. I thought the Dad chapter was great. Loved the guy on the phone in the garage while the kid is crying. Men don't feel guilt like women do and that is very true.

Of course, in this kind of "self help " book you have reflections on lots of obvious stuff which makes you say, hey I should write a book ( I had the same feeling after reading Covey's 7 Habits of Effective People). Bottom line is that this is a entertaining (but still serious discussion on the modern family's challeges). The design layout (and the humor throughout) makes it an easy to read. I blew through it in an evening.

5 out of 5 stars Love the honesty of this book!   May 21, 2007

I love this book. I love the honesty of it. Too many people pretend that their life is "perfect" and for those of us not pretending...it's perfect! Love it and will let all my mommy friends borrow it!
