Fun Book from an Unconventional Politican April 12, 2008 19 out of 23 found this review helpful
This is a very fun book. Whether you love him or hate him, Jesse is an interesting fellow with lots of interesting points of view about politics and life. Here he talks about his days as Governor of Minnesota and after, looking back from his perspective while driving into semi-retirement to Baja, Mexico. Using that as his platform he talks about his political points of view and his thoughts on politics and politicians in today's society. He of course strongly advocates for a third party system and is rankled by the monopoly the Democrats and Republicans have on the democratic (or undemocratic?) process in America.
This an interesting book from an unconventional politician (or former politician at any rate).
Excellent . You Need to Know That --- May 3, 2008 18 out of 22 found this review helpful
Jesse was unable to find a major publisher who would publish this book despite his previous 2 best-sellers. The reason should be obvious: the publishing industry (similar to all corporate-controlled media in America) has a political agenda. They either don't want or are not allowed to publicize people who are calling for real change in America.
As Jesse points out, the radio and TV talking heads get their orders from the top. Perhaps that is why Americans are constantly bombarded with Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Hannah Montana. It distracts voters from the real problems, allowing Washington to continue its raid on American living conditions.
Jesse makes the case that both parties are one in the same and he is absolutely right. And neither party will allow a third party any viable access to voters because they want to preserve their status quo BS; the same BS that has handed the reins of government over to corporations. This is precisely why most Americans are suffering while jobs continue to go overseas and America's wealthy get richer.
The one thing the book neglects is an explanation of the economic transition that is taking place, as well as the insourmountable challanges faced by America. In fairness, such detail would have clouded his passionate and inspirational message to Americans.
To fill in this gap, I would highly recommend America's Financial Apocalypse. It is by no means a light read, but it is equally relevant, if not more (given the current economic situation). And it certainly serves to reinforce the fundamental changes expressed in Jesse's book.
America's Financial Apocalypse: How to Profit from the Next Great Depression (Condensed Edition)
Also recommended is Lee Iococa's book. It is similar only in spirit to Jesse's and well worth the read. Where Have All the Leaders Gone?
Jesse Has Touched the Live Wire of 9/11 as an Inside Job. Thank You, Jesse!! April 13, 2008 15 out of 19 found this review helpful
In this book and in Jesse's corporate media interviews he has said openly what most Americans are now realizing. The official story of 9/11 does not make sense, and defies the laws of physics. We have been lied to about 9/11, Ventura courageously states.
He says he was first awoken by a documentary called "Loose Change - Final Cut" when his daughter insisted he watch it.
Another author, a New York Times best selling novelist, Steve Alten, has recently come to much the same conclusion. You can google "Week of Truth" to learn more about Alten's media statements.
Steve Alten was also joined recently by country Icon Willie Nelson and comedian Margaret Cho who also agree we as a nation have been lied to about 9/11. The evidence is against the government and corporate media version, and what Ventura points out about the WTC collapses is being researched by professional architects and engineers (Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth), who over 300 now all are convinced we've been lied to about what happened on 9/11.
Thank you Jesse for speaking out.

Lets do CONs first:
What bugged me straight off the bat was the number of spelling and grammatical errors, it really annoyed me, I thought Mr. V would have edited better!
I think Jesse is a bit naive, part of it being the soldier side of him. How could he have liked McCain or the Clinton's?! Those folks are evil. I don't take well to his bashing Christianity but again, I suppose the organized Christianity out there no longer is Christianity. His beliefs are strong and they tower over you, some of which I could contest with, but...
...with that said, this is an insightful book and worth the admission. He has great stories to tell. Even with the disagreements, I think he'd clean up shop nice given the chance. Overall, you get the sense that Jesse is truly an honest and humble man. You gotta love that and his sense of humor. Finally, toward the end his analysis gets tougher and his warnings all too true of the state we are in. He got out in time, I hope some of us can.
Some great points raised, but very hypocritical at times. July 10, 2008 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
There are several things that you can take away from Jesse Ventura and find honorable, not just from this book, but from his life. He was active duty in the navy during Vietnam, he became governor of a state as third party, (something that is near impossible) and he has always been a true independent which is truly rare at this current point in history. He brings up some great points in this book on where the country is, and where it is headed. Civil liberties are being erased, we are in a massive debt, and the expansion of the federal government is getting out of control. However he loses credibility when he writes of his meeting with Castro, and how he admires Castro and Che. If you don't like where America is headed, you only need to look at Cuba to see a country with no civil liberties, no economic freedom, and a nation who has tortured critics of the government, and forced thousands to flee. Even if you are in the dark, and don't believe Castro is a tyrant, there is no way, you can argue he is for less government, something that Ventura claims to support himself. This government is full of liars, as we have definitely seen, but when you put all this trust in a lying murderer as Ventura does with Castro, it waters down and hurts the good points, and real criticism of our country that should be addressed.
