Not for the younger girls February 10, 2008 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my daughter who is 11. I think that later on...it will be fantastic as a reference for her, however, 11 is too young for this book. Most of it would be ok but there are some things that she just doesn't need to know yet.
A "must have" book for every teenage girl February 14, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is awesome! As a mother of 3 daughters and a registered nurse who works with foster children, I highly recommend this book to every teenage girl.Nancy Redd has addressed all the issues of being female in an exceptionally clear and concise manner. It is a complete reference guide for girls in a very reader friendly format. As I read through the book, I thought it would be such a wonderful book for teenage girls in foster care who usually do not have a person close to them with whom they can discuss these issues. However, it is as important for those girls who have close open relationships with their mothers. This book will do wonders for a girl's self esteem while quiding her on the journey to womanhood. It addresses the 'small issues' such as the correct way to shave your legs to the most intimate issues of being female. Redd addresses issues which are so intimate that even mothers who talk openly to their daughters would not think of discussing. Other subjects of great importance are also covered including weight, dieting, body image, and health issues. As a mother and a registered nurse, I think this is the most important book ever published for girls who are turning into young women. Buy this book for your daughter.
Great for teen girls February 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my sixteen year old daughter, who is constantly obsessing over body issues and her weight. What I didn't realize was that this book is so much more than making girls feel good about their bodies. It also offers answers to all those questions that we as parents don't really know how to answer, or perhaps the girls don't know how to ask. She absolutely loved this book, and we spent a lot of time looking at it together, as she would come in and say " oh my gosh mom, did you know......and show me pictures etc... Definately a great choice for teen girls to read.
OUTSTANDING!!! April 5, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book shoud be on every mothers shelf and on every teenagers shelf. It is a wonderful resource! Its honest and accurate. It is so refreshing to have someone finally put a book together to answer questions that all women, not just girls, have. I am 45 and I learned from this book. I bought it for my 23yr old daughter who just had a baby. I bought it for my sister in law to have for my nieces. I cant say enough good things about this book. Buy it! You will learn and you will be encouraged!
Love this book! January 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I recently read about this book in People Magazine and had to buy it right away! The book is written for a pre-teen to late-adolescent audience. However, at the age of 24, I found the book enlightening, humorous, and helpful. I would highly recommend this book to any woman with an interest in their body and sexual health - especially to parents with teenage girls. This book answers ALL of the questions you wouldn't dare ask anyone. In fact, I showed the book to my mother - she is 54 years old - and she has asked to read it after me. The real life pictures, although shocking at first, were extremely helpful and tastefully done. The book would not be of the same quality with drawings or with no pictures at all. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. Nancy Redd has successfully filled a void in adolescent educational literature that honestly meets the audience head on with a true voice. Congratulations!
