5 out of 5 stars A story that keeps growing   September 13, 2008
It's just another average day in the life of the son of Poseidon when Percy Jackson gets attacked at freshman orientation, causing yet another school to catch fire. Rick Riordan launches us on another adventure with Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, Grover, Niko, and even Rachel Elizabeth Dare (the mortal girl who can see through the magical mist the God's use to hide their world). Though the first three books of this series tended to be stocked with more stories of the Greek Gods, this book brings us from the learning stage to the doing stage. Percy is more comfortable with his world now, though there are always new surprises to be had, and he finds himself preparing for an inevitable battle. Friends become enemies, enemies become friends, in another thrilling adventure of young heroes. The quest for Pan goes on, for Grover, as Annabeth leads her first quest to stop Luke and his army of monsters from destroying the camp. The stakes are higher and the enemies more powerful, but the group of friends are determined to save their world from destruction. Even at the end of their journey, things look darker than before, but the journey itself has more or less prepared them for what is to come. It will not be long before Percy turns sixteen and the terrible prophecy begins. The story continues, and it brings the readers along in a journey that determines the fate of the mortal world. Fans of the series will not be disappointed and new readers are always welcome. This is, for me, the best book of the series so far.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Thrilling   September 16, 2008
Book 4. All I can say is this book has to be the best one in the series so far. Rick Riordan really stepped it up with this book. As Percy grows older and more familiar with his powers, the monsters become stronger. This book is adventure-packed and hilarious. Though all the serious events happening in Percy's life are occurring, there are the funny moments. And, yet, Rick Riordan has put a new troublesome path in Percy's way with the hints of Annabeth and Percy possibly dating..... I can't wait for the next installment.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent series!   September 21, 2008
Purchased for 12-year-old son. It's always been difficult to get him to read, but he can't put these books down! I hope the series never ends.

5 out of 5 stars Demon cheerleaders and friendly hellhounds, what more could you ask for?   September 30, 2008
This is the 4th book in the Percy and the Olympians series. I have heard that there are supposed to be 5 books in the series. This book was as good as the previous ones and follows the same basic formula as those ones. I listened to this on audiobook and the audiobook was very well done!

Percy is going to orientation at yet another new school. This time more is at stake because he was allowed into this school on a recommendation from his mother's boyfriend. As usual trouble ensues and he is attacked right off the bat by evil monster cheerleaders. So starts another fun fast-paced adventure with Percy and his buddies.

Percy flees the scene meeting Annabeth on the way and they end up back at camp half-blood where Annabeth is finally given a quest. Her quest will take her, Tyson, Percy, and Grover through the depths of the fabled Labyrinth and through many other fantastical areas of Greek mythology. As Aphrodite promised Percy's "love life" begins to get difficult with the addition of Elizabeth Rachel Dare to the story.

This was another great book. I continue to love how the Greek myths are woven in with everyday reality. I love the characters. I love how even Percy's everyday normal mortal life is kept track of and not forgotten about. This is just an all-in-all great book. I love this series and am very excited to see how it ends.

Great book!
