Very Imaginative July 16, 2008 Simply put, it's Invasion of the Body Snatchers told from the alien point of view. Remarkable. I've never read Stephanie Meyer before. Her imagination was astounding.
I actually sobbed while reading this book. I haven't enjoyed a book to this extent in quite awhile.
My only complaint... the ending bothered me. I wish it had ended at the page break but I still give it five stars and the highest recommendation.
Be prepared to be swept away (and huddled over the book for hours!).
The Host July 16, 2008 This was a good book. A little slow starting and a little confusing at the beginning. About 100 pages into the book it gets really good and then you can't put it down. A great love story.
The Host July 17, 2008 Wow. I couldn't believe it when I read it. Stephenie has done another good job!! I loved Melanie! And of course, Wanderer. (SPOILERS!) I couldn't believe it when Wanda was going to die! I was crying!!! I couldn't believe it! But then Jared came to the rescue. Thank god. That was close. I love Ian!!!!
Oh, Wow... July 17, 2008 The story is basically about aliens taking over the planet Earth. The aliens are parasitic and are placed in the human body at the top of the spinal cord. Most humans consciousness are mentally pushed to the back and disappear, leaving just the alien in control. But in the case of Melanie and Wanderer, Melanie is strong and fights and she stays alert and communicates with Wanderer. The story is how these two learn to live with each other and even love each other, plus the relationships formed by Wanderer and and the remaining Humans. There is romance and love in this book, plus suspense.
Wow! I loved this book. I finished it about a week ago and it was one of those books that you don't want to end. This book evoked so much emotion from me. I teared up at least three or four times while reading it. And amazingly, it didn't have the best start. The beginning of the book was such that you had to mentally adjust yourself to which character the book was actually about. But when you click on who and what is going on it flows wonderfully. You won't want to put it down.
I am in awe of this book. I am still trying to wrap my mind around it. It blew me away. It rocked me emotionally. I became close to the characters, it drew me in so well.
Never before has a story been written about what is basically a species of sentient parasites that take over the world and in the end it leaves you caring about them and hoping for the best. I was thinking "Hey, that wouldn't be so bad."
Thanks Stephenie!
I was consumed! July 17, 2008 This story was so good, I couldn't put the book down. I forgot to eat and sleep! before I started the book, I was worried that the story would be a little weird and uncomfortable when I read that it is unique because there is a love triangle involving only 2 people! But it wasn't weird. Mrs. Meyer dealt with it tastefully. I would say that it is even more mild than the Twilight series! Any way, it is a great story. You'll get attached to the characters and be sad to finish it . . . which is a good thing . . .
