Can Morgan take everything? March 8, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Morgan finally believes that all of her troubles concerning Cal, Selene, and Ciaran are over, but she is wrong. Almost everywhere she goes something bad happens. These occurences are always happening to hurt her, or someone near. The council thinks it's Ciaran, but can it really be? Everyone thinks its her fault, after all she is a very powerful, yet unitiated, untrained witch. She knows that it's not her, but will anyone believe her? I really enjoy Cate Tiernan's books. But watch out for this one's ending!
[bad] April 3, 2002 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love sweeps, don't get me wrong, but this book was [bad]. There's not plot or resolution. Here is the gist of the story: Hunter gets a teacher from Scotland, named Eoife, to help Morgan protect herself from dark magic. All of a sudden unexplain things are happening where Morgan is. For example, books began to fly and things start to fall. Everyone believes that it is Morgan's doing, but Morgan. Morgan believes it is her father who is still at large. Eoife, Sky, and even Hunter, yes y'all Hunter too, decide to do this spell thingie that will help Morgan from hurting herself or others. The spell thingie doesn't allow Morgan full connection with her powers. Soon eventually everyone relives it isn't Morgan causing all the bad things to happen, what a shocker, everyone stand on your head if you didnt relieve that wasnt going to happen. They still dont know who it is but they know its not Morgan's mother either. And in the end Hunter leaves, but i wont spoil the dumb ending (I know your sad that i wont spill the ending). While this so called storyline is going on, the shift of the story starts going on a girl in Moran's coven. Her name is Alisa. She doesn't like Morgan and Morgan's power. There is something in her life, but no one knows about it. Go figure. Persoanlly I think that Alisa is responsible for all the bad things that have been going on. But, for some unknown reason Ms. Tiernan thoght it would be great to not share with us who caused all the "accidents" (yes, i put it in quotes for a reason) and what is up with Alisa. Come on, Cate Tiernan, did ya leave a part of the story out?????
Ehh.. April 3, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I personally expected a lot more from this book. My interest has been declining for this seris. I can't quite put my finger on it. Most likely it's because I feel that the focus of this book has been leaning away from Morgan and towards Alisa. I do not appreciate the fact that Morgan is being disliked by her sister, and how Alisa seems to be the innocent bystander. I do hope things pick up more, and I do hope the next books will increase my interest to where it was.
Sweep 9: Strife June 30, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In this book Morgan's life is still sorta [not good]. She's scared at the knowledge that Ciaran is still on the loose even with a watch sigil on him. Then things start happening when Morgan is around. Things start flying everytwhere. Morgan feels sure she isn't causing these "accidents". But then who is? Her father? Erin decides that it would be best to rein or restrict Morgan's power for awhile. Sky and Hunter agree. But things continue to happen and then they know it's not her. Meanwhile Morgan's grades are slipping, her parents are getting [upset] and threatening to send her to a Catholic boarding school. At the end of the book Hunter gets information that his parents are in Canada and decides to leave to find them.In this book I so did not like Alisa. She was sorta...dumb. And did anyone notice that she was around when all these "accidents" occured. SHOCK!!!!
Shows Promise but Leaves Much Unanswered September 3, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are three main magic threads in this one. The Council decides to give Morgan a crash course in magical defense and send an expert. The Council is looking for Morgan's father. Violent magic seems to be working around Morgan. On a personal level, Morgan needs to deal with failing grades and the loss of trust from her family.By the end of the book, the reader seems to know what is going on, but the characters have not figured it out yet. In fact, the book ends in a way that it seems the characters don't want to find out or never will (future books may tell). But that is one of the things I liked about this one. The reader may know what is going on but we know there must still be surprises in store for the characters. Like the previous books, a lot happens. People leave, relationships form, break, develop. The one real disappointment I had was with Morgan's defense training. It is extremely important but just never gets around to happening. Will we see more in the next book? We'll have to read it and see. Another good book in the series and this one leaves enough open at the end to send you right to the next one.
