Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Following the successful "Nightingale" single series, the long awaited new full length album from Mephisto Walz has arrived! Fans of classic goth rock will not be dissapointed by this veteran band's latest undertaking. An adroit, hot, and aggressive melange of memorable songs that hook the listener into a world of melancholic ethereal guitars, voices, and rhythms. A bold release from one of the few remaining classic gothic-ethereal-punk rock bands. This collection will inspire nostalgia while touching the heart of fans who desire a more emotive and passionate quality to their music. This domestic edition comes presented in a luxorious digipak format with a different cover design than the European version published by Dark Dimensions. Featuring beautiful cover photography by Elisa Lazo.

5 out of 5 stars The best since The Eternal Deep!   April 27, 2008
This is hands down my favorite MW album since The Eternal Deep. It seems to have picked up where TED left off, musically and atmospherically. Fans of that album will like Insidious. It has a similar gothic rock vibe, catchy tunes, interesting lyrics and of course Christiana's voice. Whoever compared this album and Christiana's vocals to Siuoxsie and the Banshees must have been mixing this album with something else, it does not sound anything like Siouxsie. Tracks 1, 2, 4, 6 and 8 are my favorites, 10 is my least favorite and does not really seem to go with the rest of the album, but it's alright because the rest of the album is great.

5 out of 5 stars Classic...   April 13, 2008
Classic Mephisto Walz. Upon listening to "The Eternal Deep" and falling in love with "Alle In Asche" I decided that this group was amazing for the particular genre of music. "Insidious" is nothing short of classic.

Mephisto Walz includes a lot of Pagan imagery within the music and lyrics, as well as providing the listener with the idea that the lyrics are created from a well read group of individuals. In short, both the music and the lyrics are sophisticated.

2 out of 5 stars Insidious or Hideous?   November 29, 2007

Hoping the band would improve over time, listening to this CD shows something's do not improve with time. The smooth but haunting vocals are interesting at first, but after a while are so repetitive it becomes dreadful and repugnant. The lyrics get more boring song after song, almost childish and funny. Goth is so much more than this revolting impersonation of other bands. I am still trying to decide if I should use it as a coaster or a sleeping aide. They sound like they were asleep during the writing and performing. This is not Goth at its best, this is Goth at rest. A couple of the early recordings are much better. This is a CD that is coasting by on hopes that someone will think it is Goth.

5 out of 5 stars and i call this gothic rock !   March 21, 2005

well, i'm completely agree with Mike Ventarola's editorial review. this is pure classic gothic rock, which is really hard to find in these days. not proto-punk, not techno-goth, not whatever mutant alien genre. pure.

i don't know, there's something strange about them, like there's only two possibility : you'll adore them or you'll hate them. and it's probably you'll adore them if you like ethereal vocals but if you're a manson fan, if you like screams and swearwords and angst thing just leave, right now.

similar bands are not those listed above i must warn you also. maybe die form, black tape for a blue girl, this ascension and slightly inkubus sukkubus. yes, i know they are not goth and their (her) vokal isn't ethereal but melodically i find them similar, somehow...

my favorite songs; watching from the darkest places, withches gold, last opera-like song (i can't remember the title right now and i'm just too lazy to turn back) and a magic bean.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not inspired   February 6, 2005

This CD is one of those that I got interested in after listening to some MP3 clips; I was intrigued enough to plop down my money. The CD as a whole, however, just doesn't have enough depth of inspiration to hold up. It is good, no doubt, but I can't help but feel that these two have spent a little too much time studying Siouxsie and the Banshees riffs. One can hear some Siouxsie-like vocal stylings here, a very Steven Severin-ish bass line there (unfortunately though, no Budgie-inspired quirky drumming: the drums here are unimaginitive and serve only to keep a beat). So my feeling is, if you want this type of thing, go to the group that invented it: buy Kaleidoscope by Siouxsie instead. That CD is a classic, while this one is only adequate.
