The New "Waltz King" At His Best December 7, 2003 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
Over a century ago, Viennese composer Johannn Strauss - the most commercially successful musician of his day - was known as the Waltz King. During the height of his popularity, 19th century Vienna was waltz mad, as the nobility and workingmen swooped and whirled to Strauss' beautiful dance tunes. Soon the waltz craze spread throughout Europe, then to America, and no party was considered complete without a group of musicians and a patch of floor large enough to accomodate a few waltzers. Over time, however, as musical tastes changed, Strauss's music came to be regarded as "classical," not popular, and the waltz itself became emblematic of a glittering, elegant, distant past. That is - until Dutch violinist Andre Rieu came on to the scene. Thanks to his spirited and innovative interpretations of Strauss's music, Rieu has been dubbed the new "Waltz King" - his renditions of the "classics" have started a new waltz craze in Europe and brought this almost-dead dance form back to prominence. Why? Because this isn't the type of classical music that you should listen to because "it's good for you" - it is pure entertainment at its best. It is simply impossible to listen to Rieu's waltz music without feeling good. This CD, based upon the PBS television program of the same name, shows Rieu at his best. Recorded in Dublin's train terminal before a wildly enthusiastic crowd, the music - a collection of old favorites and exciting new selections - bursts with an astonishing wild beauty. Even if you've never listened or danced to a waltz, the charms of Rieu in Dublin are irresistible. Put the CD on, and you'll find yourself tapping your feet, clapping your hands ... and possibly signing up for waltz lessons. Be prepared to have fun.

This is a great Live album for Andre Rieu. The fans from Dublin love him and he gives a performance that leaves everyone with a smile. I would recommend this to everyone who is looking for a new twist on classical music!

I saw Live in Dublin on PBS and immediately ordered the CD - every song is masterful. He plays with such emotion you can actually feel what he is feeling. Dont' miss this one!
Beautiful music, BAD recording. June 14, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I watched the entire concert on TV. The music was beautiful, and Andre gave a incredible performance. The CD, on the other hand, was disappointing at least. The sound quality is not acceptable.
AWESOME!!! February 2, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I'm only 14 and i dream and hope to become a band director or Conductor for aliving. I first heard Andre on TV and fell in love. I first learned to play the violin in 4th grade but when i heard Andre play it opened my eyes more and gave me a different perspective. The music is wonderful and beautiful. I have a new insight on music and Andre's wonderful talent makes my day brighter everytime i hear it.
