I wish I could give this dvd 5 stars, but that wouldn't be honest. The performance, only 30 minutes long, was taken from a 1972, French TV broadcast. It was in color but grainy with scratches. To compare, the video quality of "Monterey POP" ('68) was better. I'm pretty sure it was mono sound, no options re setup. Jacqui's voice was mixed a little too far down for my tastes.
The performance itself was very good and quite intimate, almost like they were performing in your living room. Jansch and Renbourn on acoustic guitars and occasional vocal harmonies, Jacqui McShee vocals, Danny Thompson bass and Terry Cox drums and percussion. You see lit cigarettes and goblets of red wine in various states of emptiness. Thompson's bass playing was more important to the group's sound than comes out on cd. McShee was a little strange: she never smiled or showed the slightest emotion until she finally loosened up and smiled on the last track. Her soprano voice was perfect. The rest of the guys played as well as you would expect.
I recommend purchasing this dvd if you are/were a Pentangle fan. I'm unaware of any other dvd by them.

Back before Doubting Thomas's only full length album "The Infidel" and this single from that album "Father Don't Cry" came out, Key described the work as music which had initially been composed to be Skinny Puppy songs, but in the end turned out to be either too mellow or unable to accommodate Ogre's vocals. And this is as good a description as any for Doubting Thomas's music, mellow Skinny Puppy.
Originally released on Wax Trax in 1991, this is a Re-Issue of the Doubting Thomas single "Father Don't Cry" from the album "The Infidel."
Three tracks have been added to the original single to pad it out a bit, the "Infidel" album track "Come In Piece" has been somewhat inexplicably tacked on to the end but may not make as much sense without it's companion piece "Theme From Pressurehead" which flows into "Piece" at the end of the "Infidel" LP.
There are also two "out-takes" which have been added;
"T.H.C." (the title of which is an homage to Key and Gottel's favorite pastime) is a really good piece and makes one wonder why it had been left off of the original single.
The other new "out-take" track is "Majickal Horse" a kind of tribal ambient piece with dialogue samples which talk about a horse eating "grass" (is there a theme here or what? well, they did appear in "High Times" magazine).
An extended mix of the album track "Father Don't Cry" starts off the single, and it is superior to the shortened album version.
"Turn A New Leaf" is funky and has a surprising turn into an almost melodic, soundtrack type song in the last couple of minutes (similar to "Dream Needle" by "Cyberaktif").
"Excrement" is good as well, but the next two tracks are just brilliant; "Movie 13" is hauntingly beautiful and would work perfectly as the background music to a horror film. And "That Problem Child" has a kind of "end credits song" feeling, with an unusual piano part played throughout the song (most likely by Goettel who was classically trained) and the dialogue quotes make the song sound almost poignant.
Overall a definite must own for fans of moody dark electronic soundtrack-type music.

I'm surprised it's available. It must be a re-release, my old one has a different cover. This is in that "ambient", "techno" category to most people, and doesn't really fit in with the mainstream stuff. But - if you liked the original Doubting Thomas CD, then this one is very similar. Pretty much all different songs though, but a similar feel to the music. It could be compared with the first Intermix album as well.I wish I could write a decent review, but in a nutshell, it's catchy synthesized gobbledygook from a Skinny Puppy side project. Playing the samples is most of what you need to know of the type of sound - however the samples are a little short, and you have to trust that given the full length of the songs that there really is a flow and rhythm to it all. Youu will feel the exact same about this CD as you do their "The Infidel".

This album is very good. I feel that it uses the material well. I recommend this album to all! I especially like Father's Don't Cry. It has a good texture composition throughout the album.
