Amazon.com Review Koolatron specializes in portable 12-volt devices, such as coolers, freezers, or microwaves, that plug into a car's cigarette lighter or other 12-volt source. With the Koolatron 110-volt adapter, you can use these same devices wherever you have access to a 110-volt outlet. Now your camping fan can double as a hotel fan when on the road, or your portable cooler can keep things from heating up once you reach your in-laws' house. The adapter works for any 12-volt accessory rated 5 amps or less, including any of Koolatron's coolers, massagers, or fans. The unit features lightweight, solid-state construction with overload and overcharge protection. --Rivers Janssen
Product Description Provide 12 volt power to your cooler anywhere there is a normal electrical outlet. Power other 12 volt accessories up to 5 amps power draw. Use the cooler as a bar fridge, or in the garage for a cold drink while working in the yard. Load the cooler for a picnic or road trip the night before and leave it plugged into the adapter, then transfer to the car in the morning for a quick get-a-way. Students can use their coolers in their dorm rooms.

Good Idea, But Undersized And Underpowered. July 11, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Bought this adapter to work with the Koolatron P-20 cooler (/warmer), but unfortunately after 30 minutes of cooling indoors it began to emit a burned resistor smell. And when I picked it up, it was very hot to the touch. Not good signs, from my experience.
Comparing it to my AC-to-DC adapter from Igloo, it's much lighter and seems to be under-designed. You can't fool Mother Nature--increased weight usually means greater power handling capacity. In this case it just isn't there. Overheating isn't what I bought it for, either. In contrast, the Igloo adapter works endlessly with getting overly hot or giving off a smell. It weighs almost twice as much, too, which seems to be related.
Save your time and money and get something more capable. You'll be glad you did. Amazon has been breathtakingly cooperative in this matter, by the way, at least so far. Free return shipping and emailed labels are the way it should be done.

We have used this adapter with our portable refrigerator 24/7 since receiving it. It works fine and appears not to get to hot.
AC Adapter June 28, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This 110 volt AC to 12 volt DC adapter is a nice addition to our Koolatron Cooler purchase. We can now plug the Cooler in inside the house and have it cool already before we bring the Cooler to the car. As a bonus you can use the AC adapter to power any other 12 volt items you have.
Get's hot. September 21, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This adapter worked well at getting my cooler cold before putting it in my car and at night when not travelling. The unit itself seems to get hot and makes me wonder if there is something wrong with it. Not sure it's supposed to do that.
