Product Description Chi Original 1" Farouk CHI Ceramic Flat IronModel GF-1001 The CHI can be considered one of the most versatile Hairstyling Irons on the market today. The CHI's ergonomic design allows the user to flip hair up or curl it under with a twist of the wrist. The CHI is ideal for straightening and smoothing the hair while the ceramic plates seal in natural moisture. It's great to use prior to a Dry Haircut. The ceramic coated paddles help prevent scorching hair color and helps reduce styling product build-up.Featuring an extra long swivel cord to prevent tangling, the CHI has a concealed on-off switch inside the handle to prevent accidentally turning the unit off when in use. The heat paddles are recessed from the edges to prevent skin burns. Will automatically heat up in less than 10 seconds. Temperature is preset at 150-180 degrees Celsius(302-356 degrees Fahrenheit)

Flat is where it's at July 15, 2006 286 out of 305 found this review helpful
When I was a kid, I used to iron my long hair before school. This was a fashion in the Sixties and my hair, though fine, tended to frizz or go wild in our humid climate. Now, fast-forward to today and my hair is getting grey. I actually like my grey hair, but...no one told me grey hair would be different in texture than my formerly raven locks. It's FRIZZY. Wild. I look around at other women my age and they have hair that looks wild, too. I am not alone in this, apparently. So, I searched for a cure for my bad hair day (week, month, year...)
I bought a CHI flat ceramic iron, with some trepidation. They aren't cheap. Wow, I had to pay over $100 and this at a discount online website. I didn't want to buy a cheap tool; figuring that poor service life or poor performance would be a bad investment. Plus, I could always ebay the item if I was ultimately not enchanted.
How it works The iron is rather heavy, has two flat tongs lined with a ceramic plate on each tong's inner surface. The unit stays open until you close it across a lock of hair. It plugs into the wall, heats up in about half a minute and gets QUITE warm, well, hot even. I prop mine on a towel to prevent burning the resin vanity surface. The iron is about one inch wide, slightly curved inside.
Unlike a curling iron made of metal, the ceramic surface straightens and somehow reduces static. And the smoothness, the glass-like surface slides across the hair, contacting each hair to make a shiny smooth finish.
How to Use Turn on iron, let heat up. Now, take a comb and pull out a lock of hair and as you comb, run the iron behind it down the entire length of the hair. Try to get as close to the scalp as you can. Repeat this all over your head. If your hair is bushy, use hairdresser clips to section off the hair that's not being styled at the moment. This really helps.
You should use a heat-protective serum or spray, as the heat is rather warm and can damage hair. There are a number on the market that are aimed at high-temperature hair styling.
Results This is not the easiest technique to use on oneself. I am not so great with hairdryers either, so it's a bit clumsy for me to comb and iron, but when done, my hair is smooth and frizz free and it lasts all day. The frizziest hair (on my temples) is the hardest to smooth out, but it does work.
Supposedly, if you are really good at this, you can turn the iron and use it like a curling iron. I have had NO luck with this technique.
Durability The iron looks as if it should be protected between uses. Mine came with a drawstring bag. If you drop it, I think it would be all over. So I am careful to stow it in a drawer afterwards. (After it cools.) Putting hair product on can gum up the plates; there is a specific cleaner for ceramic irons on the market if you find after some time your iron plates are sticky. This would really negatively impact how smoothly the iron slides. So keep it clean.
Summary While in winter, I have no trouble, in summer, my hair frizzes like mad with the humidity. Even sleeping on a satin pillowcase is not enough to banish the frizz. This iron keeps my hair smooth and shiny. It isn't as easy to use as a hairdryer, but the results are worth it.
DO NOT BUY THIS FROM AMAZON! September 27, 2006 115 out of 122 found this review helpful
I loved my CHI! But when it broke four months after I had paid for it, I found out some bad news. The one year warranty is VOID if you buy it from Amazon, because they are not an authorized dealer! So now I have to buy a new one or pay to have mine fix, which will take from 3-5 WEEKS! Amazon really needs to tell their customers warranty is void when they buy it, because Amazon WILL NOT REPLACE IT!
Prepare yourself for a totally new you. February 5, 2006 93 out of 102 found this review helpful
If you're tired of the curls and waves in your hair and want to go for a dramatic, straight look, the Farouk Ceramic Iron is for you. It works like a dream and you won't be able to stop touching your hair because it's hard to beleive it could feel so wonderfully smooth and healthy with such little effort. If you have tried to get a sleek look by yanking your hair with a blow dryer and brush, this will save you a world of time and produce far better results.
It is great! and I'm not an expert doing my hair... November 20, 2006 40 out of 43 found this review helpful
I got it and couldn't wait to use it, so the first time I used it my hair looks great. People at work notice the difference. They thought I went to the Beauty Salon. There is a world of difference between a cheap one and THE CHI. Ok, so for the "no warranty issue", Amazon sells it for $94.00, other places sell it for $135.00. If you have a problem with it you can mail it along with $35.00 and they will fix or replace (per the website), so I took the risk, and anyway, the warranty is only for a year, so after that you have to pay the extra $35.00 if it breaks. Mine works great.
Excellent Product January 18, 2008 34 out of 36 found this review helpful
I have struggled to get the hang out of my cheap flat iron for my wedge/bob hairstlye. Well, struggle no more! this iron is awesome and fast. It beats the 'cheapies' hands down. I also like it because it is thin! I thought (in my ignorance) using a larger iron would be easier, but not so. Its much easier to use this one. Plus... It comes in a limited edition pink style if you like that sort of thing (which I do). I also love this iron because its really easy to curl the ends of your hair. Just twist and go.
Make sure to use some product to protect your hair and be careful with it! You can burn your ears, neck and hands -It's HOT!
